Hey Localizers!

Thanks so much to those of you who could join the calls on Sunday!
We were happy to see faces from all parts of the globe  8-)

We announced a variety of important updates and had a great discussion on Gamification and Localization meetups.

See below for a quick summary of takeaways from the calls:

What We Spoke About

New Localizer Requirements: Should either 6 months Beta experience or Editing experience count? | In-call poll
  • The outcome of this poll was to include 6 months Beta experience as a qualifying prerequisite to being a Localizer
  • It was previously only 6 month Editing experience

We will have Localization calls with the community every quarter
  • These calls will be with coordinators and translators alike, allowing everyone in the community to have a chance to express themselves
  • We will offer at two different times to be sure everyone has a chance to join

Announcements Shared on the Call

We are in the process of reorganizing Transfiex
  • This may Localizers to receive emails that they have been re-added to projects - we will warn everyone again when this should be happening so you are aware

We are also reorganizing the database of all the Localizers
  • We will send a list to the coordinators of each language to verify not only that everyone on the list is currently localizing, but also to check their role (either translator or reviewer)

Localization Bugs will now be handled by a new team
  • A new team will communicate directly with Localizers through the new subforms and will update this sheet

Discussions

New Gamification initiatives
  • Converting Localization actions to points
  • Localization Badges for the Forum: this idea would be nice for all parts of the community- Coordinator, Reviewer, Translator, and even Top Localizer
  • Raids: two different types of Localization raids were discussed- one being to help struggling languages and the other would be Reviewing Raid, in order to get all projects to be 100% reviewed

Adding a day specifically for the Localization Community during Mega Meetups
  • This was an idea that came up in response to the idea of an online meetup
  • We hear your desire to  to connect in person together, especially given the time difference across communities

As always, these changes take time and we will take all this feedback into consideration as we gather internal approvals.
If you have anything to add on the above subjects, or perhaps did not get to join the call but have something to share feel free to reach out to us!

Thank you all for participating and we look forward to meeting again next quarter :)

Best,
Hannah and Nicole
