The Hi, Welcome and Introduction space!

Post by Ian
It has just occurred to me that we do not have anywhere for the new editor, or even an existing one, to introduce themselves to the community.

We want to grow the UK editing community and it is important that we all feel part of the same team and both work well together and also get to know each other. While we have the annual meetup, which some of you will have attended, and this is a great way to meet your fellow editors and have a chance to chat in person, we also need to have a space to introduce ourselves and get to know a bit about each other.

Here is that space!

That said, I thought I would kick this off with a bit about me.

For those who do not know me, my name (unsurprisingly) is Ian and I live in the bottom eastern corner of Essex. I retired from working in R&D for a medical equipment manufacturer 8 years ago and shortly after that found Waze.  I have now been editing almost daily since then. After far more hours working on Waze than I care to try and work out I have reached a fairly senior position within the editing community, with still a lot to learn. The more you get involved, the more you find there is in map editing with Waze.
I am also the UK Mentor, trying to help and encourage all new and potential users of Waze to get involved in the editing and hopefully join and become a regular part of  the editing community.

Now over to you, any new or existing editor who would like to introduce yourself, go for it.

Hi, I'm Callum but go by the alias Heeimweired pretty much everywhere online.
I've been using the Waze app on and off for a long time and recently decided to spend my free time a bit more constructively. I've found editing the map (tweaking bits, adding details etc) to be very satisfying and would love to continue to do so in an increasingly useful way.
I'm local the the Somerset Levels area, but regularly travel to the north of Bristol and up to York/Darlington.

I'm also particularly interested in doing site-visits if there are areas of the map (local-ish to me) that simply don't have any online update data and where the best way to accurately update it is to have eyes on-target as it were.

Anyway, I'll be online most days but not for very long each time so feel free to catch me on chat if you see me.

Hi there,

Im very new to Waze editing but have experience with mapping software so I am quickly getting use to it I'm based in the Wiltshire area and hope someone local can reach out as I'm in need of someone with a decent level to get me started and figure out how to get to a place where I can make a real impact.

Hi and welcome. We are hoping the L1 editing issue will be resolved in the next few weeks.  If you set yourself up with an editing account and a username now, you will be all set to get going as soon as the new process is released.

I used to be an AM for Sandridge and St Albans when I first got into editing Waze in about 2011/2012 but am keen to get back into helping out if I can :)

Hi Helen, as you are currently at L2, there is nothing to prevent you starting up again. I would suggest you read the UK Wazeo as a lot will have changed since you last edited. Welcome back.  :D

And NO, you can't advertise here, but I will let you off just this once as long as you get back into editing.  8-)

Let's continue on the Ian bandwagon!

Another Ian here, this one is based in North Oxfordshire, but originally from SW London, so have a good working knowledge of both areas. I'm a Paramedic Team Leader for the local ambulance service in this area, which means I get to head around the area seeing all those less travelled areas quite a bit. I honestly can't remember what got me into Waze, maybe it was getting a car with Apple CarPlay and looking for something a bit out of the ordinary. I've been editing for approaching 5 years now and find myself editing most days.

On reaching the magic L3 I took on Area Manager for Oxfordshire and have gradually expanded out to a few other areas (both areas that I know well, or areas that were a bit neglected), now looking after the Thames Valley, Tyne Tees, Norfolk and Greater London.

For me, it's a mix of the feeling of achievement when you see your edits live in the app and know you've made a difference to a lot of other Wazers, but also as I get more experience myself, being able to touch base with new editors with all those little tips and tricks that made my start to map editing that little bit easier!

I now like to think of map editing as an addictive hobby, but must remember that I need to work and have a family life too

I've just joined, sort of new to Waze but only as I've avoided my phone connection for SatNav but hung off my wife's phone for years.

I've been a contributor on another mapping platform, Level 8 there with 30K points - thousands of contributions and a surprising number of followers. I'll continue to contribute there for walking and cycling but for driving Waze is the way.

I'm Milton Keynes based but travel and have lived in several areas around the country. Looking forward to the approval of a few local place edits/contributions and hope to have the authority to add/edit roads in the future as Milton Keynes continues to grow.

Best regards,
Colin
Hi Colin, welcome to Waze Map Editing, I'm in an Oxon town a little SW of you, always happy to welcome another local editor, as local knowledge brings so much to map editing!

While I'm sure there will be many principles that you can bring over from the other platform, I'm sure it'll come as no susprise to you that Waze has it's own intricacies and local best practice. This being the case, can I point you towards some of the links in my signature below, which will give you good grounding in regards to getting started, as well as directing you towards our mentoring programme, should you feel this would be of use.

Either way, we're a very welcoming bunch, so please feel free to get involved, both on here and/or over on Discord, and pop a message over to me or anyone else if you have any questions!

theMadcabbie is back.

I have been editing since 2013, and was the AM for Scotland, Outer Islands, Isle of man and a large part of the South of England, outside of the UK I was also an AM covering Ghana & Sierra Leone.

From the username you can probably guess I was a taxi driver, in fact I owned the largest company in my area.

So, where have I been.

Prior to setting up my taxi company I was a nurse, along came the pandemic and I was asked to return to the NHS, I thought that would be for a short time, so much for thoughts... I started back as a vaccinator and then was approached by the John Radcliffe in Oxford to run the staff covid testing unit, the pandemic ended and I was asked to stay - I closed my company and I remain with the NHS.

So, within the NHS I work for Occupational Heath, looking after Health Surveillance, and since January 23 working as the system administrator for the Occ Health System. I also do bank shifts in A&E, Major Trauma and End of Life Care in our hospice.

On top of that I am also a community responder working for South Central Ambulance Service.

So, as you can imagine, time is tight, but I have missed editing - so, I AM BACK

Welcome back! Felt drawn to comment as you're close to home for me - I'm a front line team leader for SCAS and the JR is my local ED! Who knows, you may even have given me one of my four covid jabs over the last few years :)

After being a user from 2017 I am thinking now having time to being  a Waze editor. I have added a few businesses and also updated a few roads. I would like to work my was to being a level I can update carparks and also add pre planned road closures.
Welcome to Waze map editing! I can see, from a few edits you've made in the past, that you're based in the south west - we're always needing new editors in all areas, as local knowledge is so valuable.

To start you off, take a look at the links in my forum signature below, as these direct you towards a few really useful place to get the knowledge to hit the ground running with map editing! Myself and all other mentors/editors are really friendly, so consider joining the Discord server (also linked to below) as this is a fantastic place to ask any questions in a live chat environment.

Unfortunately, as you made some edits a few years ago, you're out of the window to be formally added to the Waze mentoring programme, but this shouldn't stand in the way of you messaging any mentors to ask questions along the way.

No such thing as a stupid question though, so ask away!!

Whilst the common belief is that everyone is called Ian or Chris, I'm not. I'm Jon.

Originally from West Yorkshire but currently living just outside West London. By day (also evenings & weekends) I'm a sound Engineer. Started out in theatre, which lead to a touring life with several well know musicals. The job took me all over the UK & Ireland so I know most city and town centres (ok, I know where the pubs are!). However the touring life, being away from home for weeks at a time living out of a suitcase, is a young persons game. When yet another decadal anniversary rolled past I sidestepped into the corporate world of conference, events and streaming. It's better pay, you're only away for 3-4 days and you get to stay in some really nice hotels! Thanks to the pandemic shutting down my industry for 18 months I've recently started working in TV Broadcast Sport as well.

Waze was recommended to me by a colleague and I liked how it gave real-time traffic updates. I haven't cheated on Waze with another sat nav since. I got into the editing side as I kept seeing things that were missing or incomplete as I travelled around the UK.
I'm currently AM for West Yorkshire & Greater London. I seem to spend a lot of time focusing on PURs and places. It seems a bit of a neglected area of the map so there's always plenty to do. If I drive through an area I haven't been to for some time it's not unusual to see PURs over 100 days old
