waze berry road goodies competition - update

Post by krankyd
Hi guys,
Just wanted to let you know that a list is coming up with top participants and # of points.
We'll publish the winner + top 100. Your comments on the format are loud and clear !

As for the location of the berries, you have to remember it's a worldwide distribution, so we need to take into consideration many aspects to try and ensure as many wazers as possible can play. We realize that a few things were not 100% perfect, and we will be sure to fix this before our next promotion. If you have any more comments please feel free to post them here.

I ran a across a cupcake today that wasn't munchable. It's kind of odd, because there where a half dozen other ones, and they where no problem to get (even ones off the road a bit, it seems that the client will grab the goodie even if it's farther away now.)

But there was one right about at the trouble report location, and I drove over it twice, and it would not show as munched on the client.

I don't have any dashboard routes, and nothing in my archive is from yesterday yet. Is there a way for me to post the archive route here when it shows up?

I would also suggest an algorithm that makes it a bit 'fairer' for people to win. I also support the idea of making each collected point count as an entry into a final draw. So you can increase your chances by collecting stuff, but you're not sure to win.

I also didn't even start, I already knew I wouldn't stand a chance. I have a fulltime job and drive 5 miles to my work. Some people drive hundreds of miles everyday for their jobs, there's no competing with that...

As others have pointed out above, area's with lots of roads (basemaps) have far more berries per square mile than other area's. I don't think it is strange that both the winners are from countries with a basemap. If the hunt had started a week later, I might have gotten a lot more berries (the dutch basemap came a few days after the start of the hunt. Lots of roads, but without berries).

Maybe another way to give more people a chance, even those in non-basemapped countries, is to distribute the berries per map-tile in stead of per km of road. This way all users have the same amount of berries in their neighbourhood. Ofcourse map-tiles without roads remain empty.

When the contest started, I didn't realize the model was that who ever got the most berries would win. It wasn't until I saw a blog post showing the top 50, that I wasn't listed in, that I realized I wasted my time.

I suggest a better model would be for each bonus item to equal once entry into a drawing to win. At the very least, a leader board showing how many the top person is getting so I know if I should continue to try. Were there even enough berries in my town for me to collect for me to have a chance?

It's a combination of both. We try to use them to get more info on roads that where we could use more info, but we also make sure to make a lot of them accessible (in areas and roads that waze users frequent)
