Local traffic only street in Los Angeles

Post by usa_ku0sp7a4
Waze has been directing commuter traffic onto my residential block that is restricted with signage that only local traffic is allowed. The block is N Benton Way, Los Angeles CA 90026, between Reservoir St and Berkeley Ave.

The street is narrow, with sections where two vehicles passing can be difficult due to dense parking and  driveways. Residents cannot safely back out of their driveways (many have been nearly hit by speeding through traffic), safely get their kids in and out of cars, or enjoy this residential street because of the aggressively speeding drivers Waze is routing through a restricted residential road.

Please remove this road as a routing option unless the route destination is on the block.

Can you provide an example of a non-local route that uses this street?

I have tested a few routes and don't get it as a suggestion.

On shorter drives like this, almost all roads are considered in routes. Waze doesn't know if a given road is wide or narrow, has parked cars, etc. It knows what speed traffic usually goes on that road, and uses that along with live traffic to decide which route is faster.

Regarding the sign for local traffic, I see one sign in street view at the intersection with Elsinore Avenue. With what we can see, it doesn't look like a city sign so we're going to follow up on whether or not it's valid. If we can confirm it's a city sign, we'll look at how to change things up.

In this case, the two routes are within seconds of each other for ETA but the route on Silver Lake Blvd is preferred. If there's any traffic on one, it can easily be enough to switch the recommended route to the other. It's up to you to decide which way you prefer to go. Whichever way you go, Waze will get additional speed information that will help others.

Sorry, things don't move that quickly.  Everyone who helps with the map is a volunteer.  It doesn't take any gas to send a message to the city, but it does to physically look at the sign.  Some of our relatively local volunteers are aware of the question and will get over when they are nearby.

Yesterday at 9am, I mapped N Benton Way (between Marathon and Bellevue) to “Silver Lake Reservoir”, and one of the three routes offered was straight up N Benton Way. An appropriate route, which is a wider through street and not a local-only street, was also offered - Silverlake Blvd. I have a screenshot of these results, but am not seeing a functioning way to post an image from mobile to this thread.
