The Traffic Rules in Victoria don't allow using the mobile phone whilst in control of your vehicle. Therefore, there is a reluctance on my part (and I'm sure many other fellow drivers) to report traffic hazards/jams whilst driving, this includes touching the phone to report a hazard. Currently, Waze does not have a facility to report of hazards online or via mobile once you have left the area where the hazard(s) exists. eg: Driving South along Manningham Rd, Doncaster this morning, there were three hazards - right lane closed in front of Doncaster Westfield Shopping centre, then after the Doncaster Road junction - left lane along Tram Rd closed due to construction work, and then just pass the Eastern Freeway, the left lane on Station St, Box Hill is closed between Reid & Bell Streets - construction work. Once I got to my destination in Box Hill & parked my car, it was "out-of-sync" with the areas of the hazards. I know there is a "later" button on Waze, but that still means pressing a few buttons whilst driving - which is basically an infringement of the Traffic Rules.

Had a big map edit session last night with some assistance from a fellow Wazer from WA.

Hey MrCaffeen.

Welcome to the world of Waze. We hope that you find your Waze travels enjoyable and you grow in your map editing skills.

To help you with map editing in Waze Australia, please ensure you read the Australia Wiki help pages on map etiquette. Have a read here: https://wiki.waze.com/wiki/Australia#Wh ... s_From_You
and here: https://wiki.waze.com/wiki/Australia#St ... ap_Editing

Over time as you grow in your editing confidence you can also apply for areas outside of your normal driving boundary. If you encounter a road that is locked at a higher access level than yours, ask to unlock it in this forum: viewforum.php?f=406
and if you are unsure of a particular edit or how to approach a change in the map, don't be afraid to ask in the forums as there are many other community editors with experience here.

On a final note, The Google map aerial pictures on Waze are not always right up to date, so if a junction or road may look like it differs from how it is mapped. Please always ask first before assuming that someone has made a blue and before you change it. Your edits are LIVE, so what you add/change will be updated (usually takes 2-4 days) to every wazer who drives in Australia, so please ensure your edits and turn junctions and node connections are correct before moving onto another section of road.

And most of all... have fun!

Hello from Tullamarine, Victoria.

I first used Waze 7 years ago, and have just come back. This time I have decided to try and be more productive and help out the community and map editing.

I suffer from an Autoimmune disease that has given me server fibrosis and as such spend a lot of time at home bored or out in the car or scooter just killing time, till its my time :) - So figured this would give me something to do.

Cheers, Leo.

There are a lot around, unfortunately being level 1 makes it hard to help... I’ve hit about 1500K+ edits so I’m slowly on my way...

Another Melbourne Waze user checking in!

I went through a spate of editing maps last year but quickly grew tired of requesting unlocks and updates. I completely understand the need for the levelling up, but I didn't have the time to determine what the changes were, write them up (the most time consuming part), wait for the unlock and then change them. I bring a unique and relevant background with me (an ex-cartographer and developer of a web-based road safety/mapping program for billion-dollar road safety projects and now the CTO of a technology startup), but I just gave up and moved along. No trouble - it just wasn't for me.

So I returned earlier this week hoping to rekindle my passion, but the three URs behind my first update request were immediately and incorrectly closed as Not Identified. I'm desperately trying to cling on to my love for Waze and the enjoyment I get from reviewing URs and finding their solutions and I don't want to lose the editing passion again. :)

Looking forward to seeing you in the editor.
