User from Germany here. I want the speed camera functionality back! It is not illegal.

Using a handphone without headset while driving is illegal here. Do you want to kill Waze in Germany because of that overall? It would be reasonable, it seems.

Don't ever remove features that users depend on!

Another user from Germany here:
IANAL, to my best knowledge, using the warnings as a driver while driving is a minor offense in Germany, using it outside the car or as a passenger is legal. This is what press and automobile clubs like ADAC do usually publish based on professional legal consultation interpreting the current law. (The ADAC is allowed to and does offer binding legal advice to its members. Interesting summary by the ADAC regarding radar warning devices in europe, not including Germany ("using warning devices abroad"): http://www.adac.de/_mmm/pdf/Radarwarner_166057.pdf - according to this document, there are much more problematic countries than Germany..)

EDIT to add:
I favor letting the user decide - put it up as an option in the preferences, and when crossing country borders, push a disable-feature-command to the application instance if it is not allowed in that country (hard disable when there's no doubt that it's illegal, like in Switzerland or France (based on the posts in this thread)).

That is what is planed to do. But no ETa
Well, planning to let the user decide if she wants to use the speedcam warnings and reenabling those parts of the datasets would be good and major news to all the users who want this feature back. Is this an official announcement you got through different channels than the forums, or is it your personal interpretation of the official silence regarding this matter?

Thank,

We have just removed from the map all the speed cameras in Denmark, Switzerland and Germany due to it being illegal in these countries.

we are examining ways to make Waze compliant with French law as well

Thanks,

Shirli
Hi Shirli,

In Denmark, it is not illegal to warn about speed control. General, everything is allowed, if it's not stated otherwise (also U-turns ;) ).

At http://www.politi.dk/da/aktuelt/nyheder ... 150905.htm it is discussed that it is not allowed to blink with the lights to warn about the speed control, but all other ways it's okay.
From the Danish Police Homepage wrote: ” Vi har ikke noget imod at alle lovlige midler tages i anvendelse for at sænke farten. Men det er altså ulovligt at misbruge bilens fjernlys.” siger chefpolitiinspektør Mogens Wilbert, Rigspolitiets færdselsafdeling.

"We have nothing against all legal means to be used to slow down. But it is illegal to abuse the car's high beam." Said Chief Superintendent Mogens Wilbert, National Police Traffic Department
So, can you please enable this feature again?

/Dan

Please, reconsider your decision. It is ill-advised on the legal side, and it will hurt Waze's position on the navigation market.

Every navigation software offers speed-cameras or comparable services. Navigon/Garmin decided to warn of "Unfallschwerpunkte" (locations with high potential of accident), and use the existence of a speed cam as an indicator for such locations.
...
GOOD IDEA !!!

Maybe it was just a bit of "dangerous" for them. I hope the'll reactivate this feature soon.
