Part-time restricted turns

Post by
How should we handle part-time restricted turns?

A local intersection has no left turn between 7am and 7pm. The automatic system is generating a report for people making an illegal turn during the other hours.

Can you post a permalink? The ability to enter time restrictions turns is not currently in the editor. But the feature is coming.

In a situation where a turn is illegal during certain times of the day (e.g. No Left Turn, 7-10 am, 3-7 pm, Weekdays), it's generally best to err on the side of caution and restrict the turn.
So that's the official answer.

Having said that, that should be changing soon.
Who changed it to that? The last I remember was the guidance was "if it's restricted for most of the day OR if the restriction impacts more travelers than it allows (i.e. highway on ramp closed during rush hours) then restrict it"...

Wish list: How about a yellow arrow for these situations. It'd probably be a special case as I certainly don't want to click through 3 color changes for each turn. Perhaps the vocal instruction would be something like "Left turn, with caution."

Time restricted turns is currently in testing in the Beta Version of the Editor... and yes, we've actually asked for a yellow arrow to be displayed if there are any restrictions (time based or vehicle type based) on the turn. The concept we are pushing for is the normal red/green arrows that just go back and forth, but if a restriction is added to the turn, the arrow turns yellow and clicking on a yellow arrow will open the restriction dialog box.

If you can find a local editor with access to the beta, you can try to get them to add the restrictions now (the restrictions will effect routing, but they may be messed up at first - this is a beta test)...

Says the seasoned Waze editor/user. Indeed! We are long suffering, 'tis true. :)

Just started looking for this feature. I have reported a few 'no left turn' with '4-6 PM' in the notes as I am regularly advised by Waze to take small residential streets that have these signs at entrance. I wanted to add a few more (school pickup hours change certain local roads to one-way etc) timed blockages.

Some of them require a good deal of re-routing to get around so it's a nice addition. It's my first time playing with the 'full' map editor so I was surprised there was no option for this. Guess I'll have to wait a while. Will there be a bigger announcement when it's available? It's a huge feature missing IMO.

Do you mean in the client?

I'd like to see Turn Not allowed, with the comment "Time restricted", the turn direction, street from, street to, and a description of the restrictions.

That's a lotta typing, though.

There will be, once the feature being tested in the beta is released.
Yes, the restrictions (segment and turn) are the first map element which will have a true description field where editors can save details about why the restriction is in place or other notes to communicate to other editors.

I'm keeping a list of Part Time restricted turns that I find while editing. That way I'll be ready when I can get access to the updated WME.
