WME Validator Localization Packages

Postby berestovskyy » Thu Jan 09, 2014 2:08 pm

Validator Localization Packages

What is localization package?
Localization package is a script that tunes Validator up for your country. The script can enable/disable checks, set params and exceptions, translate user interface and messages.

There are two types of localization packages:
1. Built-in or default packages (come bundled with Validator).

2. External or user packages (the subject of this document):
a) user packages with params and translations
b) user packages just with params

User packages have higher priority, so they can override default options.

How to create a localization package?
1. Position WME over your country.

2. Switch WME to your language to get options and translations
or switch WME to "English" to get a package just with options.

3. Make sure any previous version of your script is ENABLED.

4. Prepare your country ISO Alpha-2 country code: list of codes (example: ES)

5. In Validator click Settings->About->(magic wand) and answer the questions if any.

6. The generated package is a Greasemonkey/Tampermonkey script ready for installation.
Copy and paste it into a new .user.js file or directly paste into the Greasemonkey/Tampermonkey.
Example filename: Validator-Spain.user.js

How to tune up/translate the package?
1. Open the .user.js file in a text editor. You can create a Google document and share the file among few editors/translators.

2. Search (Ctrl+F) for string "TODO:" and translate/check the marked strings. Please also remove the "TODO" marker. Example:
Code: Select all
"report.link.forum": "TODO: forum", -> "report.link.forum": "foro",

3. To enable a check, add/change the following line:
Code: Select all
"101.enabled": true,

To disable the check:
Code: Select all
"101.enabled": false,

4. For some checks you can also set params. Have a look at the complete list of validations for the list of params and their description: forum link

For example, to create a custom check 'Street name with a dot (excluding Ramps)', add the following lines:
Code: Select all
"130.enabled": true,
"130.severity": "warning",
"130.params": {
"titleEN": "Street name with a dot",
"problemEN": "There is a dot in the street name (excluding Ramps)",
"solutionEN": "Expand the abbreviation or remove the dot",
    "template": "${type}:${street}",
    "regexp": "D/^[^4][0-9]?:.*\\./",
},

*Note: use D at the beginning of RegExp to enable debugging on JS console.
*Note: do not forget to escape backslashes in strings, i.e. use "\\" instead of "\".

How to install the package?
The Wizard generates Greasemonkey/Tampermonkey script ready for installation.
You can copy and paste it directly into the Greasemonkey/Tampermonkey.

To add the script in Chrome/Tampermonkey:
Install Tampermonkey for Chrome: Web Store
a) copy your script to the clipboard (Ctrl+C)
b) click Tampermonkey icon in Chrome
c) from the drop-down menu select "Add a new script"
d) in the script editor select all (Ctrl+A) and paste your script instead (Ctrl+V)
e) click "Save" (not "Save to disc")

To add the script in Firefox/Greasemonkey:
Install Greasemonkey for Firefox: Add-Ons
a) copy your script to the clipboard (Ctrl+C)
b) click Greasemonkey icon in Firefox
c) from the drop-down menu select "New user script"
d) click "Use script from clipboard" button
e) click "Save"

Reload the page, click Tampermonkey/Greasemonkey icon and make sure your script is there.

How to distribute the package?
The generated package is a Greasemonkey/Tampermonkey script ready for installation. There are two ways to distribute your localization package:

1. Your local community maintain/distribute the package. Let me know when your package is ready, so I put a link to your package on the Validator main page.
So you need two scripts installed: "Validator" and "Validator for your country".

2. Alternatively, on your request I can import the whole package back into the Validator. So your package becomes a default built-in package bundled with Validator.

How to update the package?
1. It is OK if Validator version does not match your localization pack version. In case your localization package miss a string or an option, Validator will use english strings/default options instead.

2. Make sure the previous version of your script is installed and enabled, so you see your translations.

3. In Validator click Settings->About->Wizard, answer the questions if any and generate updated localization pack.

Note that all your translations will be preserved in this updated script and all new/changed strings will be marked with "TODO".

See "How to create a localization package?" section above for more details.

WME Validator F.A.Q.

Postby berestovskyy » Tue Jan 14, 2014 2:14 pm

WME Validator F.A.Q.

  1. New! Search for a specific username
Validator does support a search for a specific username. Click "search" tab and put a desired username(s) into the "Updated by" field.

For privacy reasons the feature is available for country managers only. Regular users and area managers have "Include only your edits" option instead.

  2. Validator stops scanning when I switch to another browser tab
Drag Validator's tab out to create a new window. Do not minimize it, just switch back to the original window.

  3. New! What is the custom check?
Custom check is a powerful tool to highlight very specific map issues, not covered with built-in validations. See "Custom Checks Examples" for more details and examples: forum link

  4. New! Validator highlights closed roads
You can suppress highlighting by adding a country-specific keyword to the street name. The default keyword is "closed" ("travaux" for France, "remont" for Poland etc.)
Example: Main St (Closed) <-- this street will never be highlighted

Note, Validator still reports those segments as #101 "Closed road". So if you scan an area and click "Show report", you will get a list of roads marked with the keyword.

Wiki reference: Long term closures (USA)

  5. New! Validator reports issues outside of my editable areas
Please make sure "Exclude non-editable segments" filter option is checked.
Note: Validator consider a segment as an editable if you are allowed to change segment's properties AND change turns at both nodes. If a node is not loaded into WME (i.e. out of the screen OR current zoom level is 0-3), Validator assumes the node is EDITABLE.

  6. I'd like to enable/implement a check for my country
Great! Send in a permalink to your country's wiki and the check will be enabled/implemented!
You may also translate/localize existing checks: forum link

  7. There are too many highlighted segments!
Apply more filters! For instance, to concentrate just on warnings and errors select "Exclude notes" filter options.
To completely switch the highlighting off, just click the main view title "Validator" or disable "WME Validator" layer in WME layer switcher.

  8. There are too many permalinks in the report!
Apply more filters! Close the report, select few more filter options and click "Show report" again.
The permalinks in the report are sorted by the road type, so more important (i.e. Freeway) segments always come first.

  9. Severities
██ NOTE - or a minor issue. It's safe to skip notes.
██ WARNING - affects search, TTS or might affect routing. Please check it.
██ ERROR - broken routing. Please fix it.

  10. Validator reports "Might be incorrect city name"
It means that Validator saw few segments with very similar city names (i.e. "Renens" and "Renens VD"). See "Might be Incorrect City Name" Check Explained for more details: forum link

  11. How to fix reported segment?
Hover your mouse over the issue in the segment property panel to get a detailed description, reference link and "How to fix" instructions:

WME Validator 1.1.4 / 07.11.2014

Postby SiewMeng98 » Mon Nov 24, 2014 4:39 am

The new version of the Validator when used for checking large areas - it stops and we have to press the report button and the play again to continue. Before this we did not need to. Is there any limitations to the number of segments built in or any zoom level where it would work optimally without having 3 or 4 breaks.

That BEEPING Beeping!

Postby bummerdude69 » Tue Jun 03, 2014 5:00 pm

Two questions
1) what does the various beeps mean? Seems to have a purpose, but haven't figured it out.
2) How do you turn that NOISE OFF?!? ;)

Saint versus Street

Postby krikketdoug » Sun Jun 22, 2014 11:42 pm

An idea for another invalid street name check, that might be workable...

I was out on a drive and I heard a couple of times at different streets, "Turn right on Street Charles Road". Kind of obvious what the problem was when I thought about it. St. is the abbreviation for Saint and Street.

Given that Street would only be used at the end of the street name, but Saint would be used after the directional (if any) and before the name, could Validator look for St in this context?

Just a thought.

Please update the FAQ. In particular, it should not use the word flashing.

New! Search for a specific username
Validator does support a search for a specific username. Click "search" tab and put a desired username(s) into the "Updated by" field.

I really like having WME Validator double-check my work.
This is a really useful feature. It would be really useful for mentors to be able to search for their mentees' usernames, too.

Thanks for all the effort you have put into this tool.

A mentor can request a report on their mentee in an area from a champ mentor/RC, they might be willing to help.
