It was awful. When I entered my room I was met with a stench. There was a pillow case strewn on the bathroom counter. The carpet was filthy, the furniture excessively scarred, the carpet visibly stained and tape on the ceiling. I notified the front desk. They were apologetic, polite and promptly moved me to a room with a view of a lake. This room also had a stench and scuffed and scarred furniture and torn carpet.
I was in town to coordinate a wedding and had driven 6 hours, leaving from at approximately 4am. I hit the ground running when I arrived in VA. and was completely exhausted and upset at having to switch rooms at the evening hour that I arrived only to find much of the same discomfort. I sprayed Lysol into the vents and on the carpet in an attempt to rid the room of the musty smell because I was too tired to switch rooms again knowing I had to be up early for the wedding the next day. It wasn't until the next night that I returned that I couldn't smell it anymore.
In addition to the shoddy interior and awful smell, I requested an additional bed and was told twice that the bed would be arriving shortly. It took so long to come that I cancelled the extra bed because we were exhausted and tired of waiting.
I expect more from the Marriott. I haven't ever stayed at a Marriott and seen such a terrible room and I've stayed in many. This hotel is in the middle of a great area with great restaurants overlooking a beautiful fountain. The hotel should match it's environment and uphold the reputation of Marriott.
