Following a UR being raised a week or so ago, I discovered that the Fairfield Halls roundabout in Croydon was suffering from the 0th exit problem. I rebuilt it on the 24th, and the Status page is telling me that the map tiles have been updated up to the 26th, so the rebuild should be live.
Today, another UR has been raised in the same spot, and Live Map Navigation shows that the 0th exit problem has reappeared.
Of course I’ll rebuild it again, and again, as necessary, but it would be nice to know whether anyone at Waze is working on understanding and fixing the problem(s) that cause roundabouts to degenerate like this. It’s a damned awkward shape to build and I’m already fed-up!
Oh, and since I updated Chrome with the new WMEOpendata, URO and other scripts that have been released as crx files, the SRS script has disappeared from the data panel in WME, which is why I’ve only given one segment in the permalink above. If anyone has a solution to that problem, as well, I’d be so grateful.
SRS 0.4 is working OK on my development systems, and I’ve had some feedback from other Chrome users saying the crx version works for them, so provided you didn’t forget to install the SRS crx when you were busy installing everything else, then I don’t see why it wouldn’t be working for you too. Also just checked the roundabout being discussed here, and its segments have the necessary properties to invoke the SRS button on selection (some “roundabouts” have the visual appearance of a roundabout, but won’t invoke the SRS button when selected, but that isn’t the case here).
SRS now working - thanks. I hadn’t seen that a .crx version was available and had loaded the .js one.
WME toolbox now installed, and I made sure I installed the latest versions of WMECH and JNF first. It loads at about the same time as URO and WMEOpenData, which both continue to work, but there’s no sign of the Toolbox.
I think I’ll rebuild the roundabout anyway. Last time I did so, I didn’t include all the roads in the build and added some after, which is why segment numbers aren’t consecutive. This time, I’ll include them all from the start.
Does this mean that if we add an exit to a roundabout, the whole roundabout should be rebuilt as a matter of course? I don’t think I’ve seen that suggested anywhere before.
I’ve not seen rebuilding suggested, but roundabouts cause so many other problems that I don’t trust them! I nearly always rebuild when adding/removing segments.
Reading through the comments on the WME Toolbox thread it seems this is something they recommend in the French Wiki. No idea if it makes a difference but I am sure I am not the only editor to have been given 0th exit directions or have it not give an exit number and the roundabout looks fine in the editor; deleting and rebuilding this apparently ok roundabout fixes the problem though.
At least I’m kept busy rebuilding roundabouts all over South London. It looks as though about a third have a fault, according to WME Toolbox, although as many are normal, giving left, right or straight on directions, they don’t exhibit the 0th exit problem.
