We are excited to announce that we are launching the MTE Up Challenge this year.
What’s the MTE Up Challenge? The MTE Up Challenge is an event to encourage active and new editors to use the MTE & closures features in order to improve local experiences.
Sound familiar to the 2017 Awazeing Race? It is! The main difference is that in 2020 the event will run at different points throughout the year with separate events for each region (five events total). During these events the communities come together, joining forces in a mapraid-like challenge.
What’s so special about this event? There will be a leaderboard to show which countries and editors are leading in the challenge, there are rumors of some awesome badges or swag for winners, and you’ll get a whole lot of love from your community!
The first two challenges will kick off in February for the APAC and Brazil communities and will run for 8 weeks. We are aiming to run each challenge during a region’s warmer months when events season tends to pick up!
We will announce the dates for the NA, LATAM and EMEA MTE Up challenges once the APAC and Brazil challenges wrap up.
Don’t have closure permissions? Don’t worry!MTE Marshals will be available to mentor you and we will be introducing a process to provide temporary closure permissions to editors who are mentored. We will share a form to submit your request for temporary permissions a few weeks before your communities challenge launches.
Rules of the race All editors who submit events in regions that are live throughout the race will automatically be included.
Not sure which region the country you edit in belongs to? Checkout the breakdown on this sheet.
If you’re going to be ranking countries by number of MTEs, then you will need to stop waze_roadclosures from creating MTEs for the smallest & most insignificant of roadworks.
At last year’s Euro meetup, the UK was the top country for MTEs - and this was almost entirely due to MTEs that couldn’t be considered “major” or “events” or would have a large effect on traffic. Whilst we greatly appreciate the help provided by the waze_roadclosures team in creating closures, there are parts of the UK map where MTE is becoming pretty meaningless and we’re working with our CM and the team to try & change this.
Excellent … Ready to collaborate. I have a question. For provisional closing permits, are we going to carry out a mentoring process as was done in the “Awazeing Race 2017”? Do we have any different methodology?
Maybe it’s time to fix bug first with this https://www.waze.com/lt/events. I do not know how many languages yet have this page translated or created. For this reason, users receive MTE push messages with 404 error.
