I don’t know how to update it but all Red Light and Speed Cameras in BC operate in both directions but I only get alerts for cameras facing my direction of travel. Is there a way to add the other direction?
I wasn’t aware they operate in both directions. I thought the red light cameras only worked where the camera is pointed at the back of your car? They’d have to install the wire detector loops in the opposite lane as well, and I’ve never noticed any.
(wire detector loops for traffic lights are usually round or square, whereas the ones for red light cameras are short and wide, installed in pairs)
I already posted it in Hangouts, but here’s the 5 speed cameras that went live on Monday:
Red Light Cameras only capture the rear of the vehicle – there were privacy concerns back in the 90’s when some high-powered individual got caught with a woman in the passenger seat who was not his wife, and the wife opened the ticket when it was received. Since then, they only capture a vehicle’s rear license plate.
Just curious to know when all 35 speed/red light cameras will be entered in Waze? As far as I know all of them became active in July. As of Friday, I noticed that the one at 207th at Lougheed Hwy in Maple Ridge was still not coming up on my Waze alerts. It would be great to have an early warning for this ridiculous return to photo radar  that the previous provincial government has vanquished … and we all hoped would never return to BC. :x Politicians!!!
I’ll try and clear up some things about the new speed cameras at the light light camera locations. We seem to be getting a few user reports on this as well.
Currently there are only five of the speed cameras activated, a map of those activated camera locations is available at https://www.icbc.com/road-safety/community/Pages/intersection-safety-camera-program.aspx
You will still just see a “Red Light Camera” alert at the speed camera locations as we don’t have an option of alert for two different types of cameras.
It is important to note that the red light cameras only ticket drivers in one direction of travel at each intersection. At Lougheed and 207th you will thus only be alerted to a red light camera if travelling in the westbound direction on Lougheed.
So I’m wondering what is happening with this? It has been quite a while and I do not see a single one up. I’d like to do it myself since I use Waze so much but sadly not enough permission
There is currently no functionality in waze to provide both red light and speed alerts for cameras. There were some changes that were being considered to how these alert to users, but it has not changed yet. To date camera information has been updated, but there is no difference on the client side.
The speed Camera’s are a joke… Slightly speed up so you don’t get a Red light ticket and, boom!! you get a speeding ticket. Main and Hastings is the worst 30 KPH! You can do crack, be a pimp and sell stolen goods… but heaven forbid you do 36kph in the intersection.
Whould be really helpful if drivers could be alerted to Speed and Red light Camera’s in the same intersection.
Hi there - could we put an enhancement request to get change notifications to be selectable for Speed / Red Light so we could (if wanted) turn off red light and just be notified for the speed cameras?
New speed camera added northbound at Tillicum Rd and Hwy1 in Victoria BC.
How can this be added so it shows up on the client side? There is a red light camera at that intersection already.
Thank you for any input
