Hi,
On a drive earlier today from Peterborough to Haddenham (near Aylesbury), I went along the A4146 from Milton Keynes.
It pronounced the road as the “A 4 14 6” (four fourteen six) - just curious as to what the CORRECT pronunciation of the road SHOULD be??
I’m torn between the “A 4 1 4 6” (four one four six) and the “A 41 46” (forty-one forty-six)??
Loving the App by the way, INSTANTLY told me of a diversion when the A421 was shut from Black Cat Roundabout to the Junction with the A6.

Just to add, I’m using the “English (UK) Thomas” voice, if that makes any difference.
We’re not entirely sure if we can control this, but we’re looking into it. I noticed this problem myself in Oxford at the recent UK Meetup.
There have been discussions before about the pronunciation of 4-digit road numbers. Opinions varied as to whether to pair digits or not and I don’t remember any definitive consensus being reached. However, I’m pretty sure nobody would like digit-pair-digit. :roll:
Indeed, digit-pair-digit is only slightly less appealing than having such a number read out in full (e.g. “ay four thousand one hundred and forty six”).
Personally, I’d suggest that all single and double digit numbers are read out in full (“ay one”, “ay forty two” etc), as are all 3+ digit numbers which are multiples of 100, 1000 respectively (“ay four hundred”, “bee one thousand” etc).
Other 3+ digit numbers are where it gets more contentious, and whilst my personal preference would be to read them out digit by digit, I can see why some people might prefer at least some numbers to be read out as pairs of numbers - i.e. “ay forty ten” vs “ay four oh one oh”.
But “ay four fourteen six” is just wrong, so so wrong…
Just as an update…
Been for a drive around 2 of the local 4-digit roads near me and they’ve been pronounced thusly:-
A1260 - ay twelve sixty
A1179 - ay eleven seventy-nine
See, I’m torn as different roads may be pronounced differently, for example:
Near me, I have the A663 and the A627(M). These are pronounced differently (depending on who you speak to).
A663 - Ay six sixty three (Same in the app)
A627(M) - Ay six two seven em (pronounced “ay six twenty seven <small pause> emm” in the app)
If we do have control over this, there will be people who don’t like the way it’s spoken, no matter which way it is.
I think most of our roads are read out in a reasonable way, except for A4 14 6 (which I have also heard first hand).
We’ll have to talk to Waze about how they can fix this specific occurence…
That was the reason I started this thread really, as most of them ARE read out in a reasonable way.
To be honest, when I heard the A4146 being read out whilst I was driving - I was looking for the A414 turnoff!!!
Glad to hear it wasn’t just me that heard it as “ay four fourteen six”… 
Also, has anybody heard “Thomas” say viaduct? It seemed to me that he says it in a slightly-higher pitched voice??
I noticed it when he “told” me to drive along the A505 Park Viaduct in Luton
