I’m brand new to map editing, I’m sorry. I read over the wiki and didn’t see this questions addressed.
My friend tried to use Waze to get to my house, and got hopelessly turned in circles for 15 minutes before she called me. I’ve since looked into it and found that when you search on my house number, there is a pin (it looks like there were no actual house numbers on my street, I’m talking about a location marker) at the back end of my property, which fronts a totally different street, from which there is no access to my house at all.
So, I went and added a house number and stuck it at the end of my driveway, but now when I search for my house, it is still pulling up that original location marker at the back of my property instead of the house number that I added.
What have I done wrong?
The address is 8301 Hawk Nest Dr, Richmond, VA (which I already had to change to add the city, and fix the street name from Hawks to Hawk…that all worked fine).
You just edited the house number today. Now you have to wait for the map tiles to update; see http://status.waze.com/, which indicates that updates are currently three days behind.
Incidentally, it doesn’t look like you are actually in the City of Richmond; in Waze, we use city boundaries, not post office addresses, to identify street segments.
If there are no entries in the Waze Address database (House Numbers), Waze will use the Google pin and navigate to the closest road segment to the GPS coordinates of that pin.
When did you add the house number? If it was today, you will probably have to wait a few days before it publishes… You can actually put the number on your house, the stop-point (stuck to the road) is where Waze will route users to.
Ok, thanks! And incidentally, you’re right, I don’t live in Richmond technically, but in Henrico County, I don’t live in a city. Can I/should I put a county name in place of the city name? The neighboring neighborhood is listed as Chamberlayne, but we don’t live in Chamberlayne. We live in Henrico County.
And actually, this brings up another question for me. I put Richmond in, because if I’m punching in my address, or having a friend punch it in to navigate to it, I will tell them my address is in Richmond, because that’s my mailing address. I don’t have a habit of telling people my address that is different than my mailing address, and I never will. So, if my address in Waze says Henrico or Chamberlayne, but we put in Richmond…will this not create a problem? This is the big problem I have with the GPS in my car when I’m trying to go somewhere, and I think it’s Richmond, but it’s really Glen Allen, or something like that, then it won’t find it. So…this isn’t a problem with Waze? And if my friend puts in Richmond trying to get here, but it’s recorded in Waze as Henrico, it’ll still find it no problem?
You can bring this up in the Virginia forum, but it’s been brought up before, and the majority wants to continue to use municipality and census-designated place boundaries, rather than the names that any normal person uses when they tell someone else their address. (You can probably tell which side of this question I am on. :-))
