In some conditions, the error on your gps position can be up to 40m, this is visible typically when you start up waze sometimes (and your gps). You jump from street to street before you get a good fix. Once your moving and put on a road, waze assumes you will stay on the roads and it seems like your position is very accurate.
Correct…
Also, the GPS-points layer in WME is the ‘raw data’, on what Waze is based to pinpoint your position. Waze will of course try to ‘lock’ your position on the nearest reasonable segment.
The GPS-points layer comes in handy to draw new roads, that aren’t on the aerial yet, or when you think there is a distortion between aerial images and true position.
I do have to say, sometimes it looks like my Position marker in Waze seems right next to the road, on my phone, but that looks more like a render bug or something.
Maybe one further question on this topic. Gps-points resemble raw data but what triggers waze to show these particular GPS-points? Is it a recent drive, an average of drives or something else?
In the above case I suspect that the gps-points way off the road are just the ones from this single Wazer?
The layer is refreshed every certain time, like every 3 or 6 months or so and the available gps-points are been put there…
No way to determine what gps points are from what wazer, it’s just ‘anonymus’ data to help editors.
