Airport issues

I thought I’d start a general discussion about this issue, prompted by this UR:

It’s a simple missing-road request, but t’s a little challenging figuring out how to lace in a new road with all the different levels, etc.

I have generally found Waze a challenge in and around the airport, with the GPS signal problems and all and wondered if other people have a similar experience.

Pretty sure that Waze doesn’t care about the altitude readings from the GPS… so levels don’t make much difference for it to figure out which road you’re on.

With the way current airports are being set up with multi-level roads for access to various functions (arrivals / departures / etc.), a nav system is really only to get you to the airport – it won’t get you to the right area unless you’re watching the signs.

That’s a good point. This has got to be an issue at major airports everywhere. Perhaps there’s no such thing as point-to-point navigation where airports are concerned.

Not true, waze will take you to the airport, that is the point it will take you to. Until GPS points are established (unlikely in my opinion) for each terminal or airline drop point, as well as short term and long term and rental pick-up and drop-off, getting more specific than just the airport is asking a lot. If it gets you to the terminals as opposed to the back side of the airport or the cargo terminals it’s doing great, just remember others are having issues with Waze taking people to non-public entrances at other airports.

That layout is waaay to complex. There is nothing to delineate a user needing the upper or lower level. From just the overhead I see three routes needed, to the terminals (arrivals and departures) to international (rather than overseas as technically every flight out of there is going overseas) parking, and inter-Island parking. Simplify and the UR’s will diminish.

By the way, here’s the latest UR about the area:

I’m going to take a look at other airports.

However, I’m not sure how it can be made much simpler, given that approaches to departures and arrivals happen on two levels.

Overseas is anything outside of Hawaii. There are two main terminals, overseas and interisland. We could make a landmark that touches a specific route for arrivals. If you navigate now it instructs you to go to departures
