Hello Dear Wazers,
i share with you WURM, Waze Update Request Marker, former WSLM; Waze Speed Limit Marker.

i’ve built a simple way to mark signs to later on fix them. It can be speed signs on the actual road or speed signs on the left road (or ramp). Soon we’ll be able to mark when we enter/exit a city/locality.
It’s a browser based tool (webapp) so it works on iOS and Android.

Add to Home Screen and you’ll have better experience.
You can easily switch between waze.app and WSLSM.app (look at the FAQ if you have questions)

V4 is live, major features:

• all submission are done in the background
• throttled 1 UR per second
• GPS data gathering runs two times a second, forcing max accuracy
• support for Imperial speeds and countries (your not there and you need different signs, talk2me)
• small status with accuracy, heading, speed and URs status
• when it’s not possible to submit URs, the status will be red
• all data goes through SSL/HTTPS
• URs for Israel, USA&Canada and RestOfWorld are available
• speed limit signs from USA and Canada, besides the “”“normal”“” ones
• upgrade process when you have the webapp in your home screen

Q: Awesome stuff! How can i take the best of it?

1st thing you should do is open your default browser (the native one) and add the page to your home screen. This will transform the page in a fully functioning web app.
After that, fill the form with your Waze Map Editor data and start submitting Signs.

Q: What devices are supported?

I test on iOS (iPhone 6) and Android (Nexus 4) and there are editors using it on a Windows Phone. Have a spare and recent iDevice and Android, send it to me

Q: Whats the best way to switch between apps?

On iOS, I use it like this:
1st open WSLM.app and then open Waze.app from WSLM.app (waze icon, bottom right corner)
You’ll have a shortcut to WSLM.app in the top left corner

Q: Are there any know issues?

• Javascript is slower in iOS when in webapp mode
• Screen always on don’t work on webapp mode (add to homescreen)
• On Android, the webapp is not considered an app so it wont appear in the app list
• Splash screen don’t work anymore on iOS
• There is no way to leave the webapp running in the background on iOS
• Even if it’s not scrollable, the webapp mode lets you scroll

Q: I’ve a lot of offline URs to submit, how can i do it?

There is no automatic way to do it (on purpose), i’m still checking if all devices behave well.
The best solution is a simple one, switch between portrait and landscape, you’ll see them going away

Q: I’m having problems with GPS, what should i do?

iOS you shouldn’t have any problems, just check if you have access to the sky so you can receive GPS data. If you rejected access to you device location, app’ll not work.
Android, check if your GPS in OK, ensure that you accepted Chrome (and this app) to access location information.
If you are using a Sony Xperia L, there is a bug on that device that makes this app unusable. I’ve reported Sony. (maps.google.com don’t work also)

Q: What is the “I Prefer Screen” setting supposed to do?

In some devices it’s not possible to have the app upside down. This feature is a way to enable it.

Q: When I report a speed limit by pressing the speed limit sign it briefly turns red. Does that mean it got reported or a problem?

It’s a visual mark so the user can quickly focus on the road. It stays like that for a second to ensure that the user aknowleges.
I used this strong color on purpose, main objective, eyes on the road.

Q: Why doesn’t my reports show up on the map?

This tool for Waze Map Editors use only.
This reports will be available at the editors area.

Q: If there’s a certain GPS accuracy required to report, could you please add a feature showing the GPS accuracy if there’s a problem with the report?

The decision to allow (or not) a report is more complex. Accuracy is one but you also have the age of the data, how many reports you did, etc.
In a nutshell, if you see the status in a dark red, it means you can’t send reports.
(from the list of features: - when it’s not possible to submit URs, the status will be red)

Hrm, I’m slightly confused, sorry, so in using this, I would host it on my phone, then at a stop or at a speed sign switch to Safari on my phone, then press the button?

That’s pretty neat, nice one!

To help users of this tool once they’re sat down with WME and looking for their speed limit URs, can I suggest that the UR text your tool submits includes a URO-style tag (e.g. [WSL]) at the start of the description text, which would allow URO users to more reliably filter them - the current description text uses words which are a bit too likely to occur in other URs.

I could also build support for these URs into URO in the same way as the other tagged URs - one-click filtering and a custom marker.

Doesn’t it already work on Android? Just tried it here in Chrome and it claims to have submitted a report OK, but won’t be able to check if the UR has shown up in WME until I get back home later tonight…

dbcm, have you had any luck with the speed/distance, regarding the accuracy?

(I’ve not had any issues with the thousands of decimal places anymore.)

UPDATE: added the heading (azimuth) to the UR so we can check the right side of the road.
