Area Manager status

I’m not even sure where to put this, but I received an email from Waze indicating that my area manager status was removed, because I was “inactive for 90 days”.

(1) I have logged into the map in the past 90 days
(2) There have not been ANY update requests in my area.

How am I supposed to be more active, if there is nothing to do?

The map will never be complete. If the roads are absolutely 100% correct then there’s always landmarks parks etc to add and change but I have a feeling the map will never be complete.

You can always re-apply, but the Area Manager status usually involves a more active role than just closing URs. You don’t need to be an AM to do that though. You can view and close URs anywhere within a mile of where you’ve driven.

If you want to take on a more active role, go through your local area, and look for roads that don’t have the proper direction set, turn restrictions that are incorrect, missing roads, roads on the map that don’t exist. Landmark your Parks, Schools, Municipal buildings (not private businesses and not parking lots though). Be sure all of the gas stations are located correctly (see the gas stations thread in the United States forum for more info).

I haven’t seen any part of California that doesn’t need this type of cleanup done.

“I haven’t seen any part of California that doesn’t need this type of cleanup done.”

My local area does not have any “cleanup” that needs to be done. Mainly because I did most of it (65+ updates according to my dashboard). And yes, I’ve identified public buildings etc in my area, and I’ve always took care of every update request submitted. I have fixed the poorly digitized routes, added roads where they didn’t exist, and fixed incorrect turn restrictions. I had a fairly small area. No sense of me trying to pretend to know anything about a community I’ve never been in… seems like being an AM for the area I’m intimately familiar with makes the most sense.

Doesn’t really matter I suppose… screw the powers to be at Waze. I’m not going to beg to perform a volunteer job that benefits Waze. They don’t want me. Fine.

The fact that it took you almost a month and a half to come back to this thread says a lot…

Being an Area Manager is not just about “your” area of the map - it also requires being “active in the Waze forums, asking questions, and even providing guidance for newer editors”.

I can relate to what Comperini said, and I think your reply to him was a bit unfair. This is summertime, and he MIGHT’VE actually been on vacation, for all you know, and it wasn’t ‘almost a month’, it was 2 1/2 weeks between posts. Some of us do have other commitments and family life which sometimes gets in the way.

While it may be more important now to frequent the forums and community; without the effort the map editors like Comperini put in when Waze was building out the maps, it wouldn’t have been nearly as successful. This is my first post in the two years I’ve been a Waze user, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t been active in the forums; most, if not all of my editing questions had already been answered. Of course I suppose I could’ve just posted a reply to other posts, with a “Yep, I agree!”

While this is my first post, and I cannot match your commitment to Waze, I do have 324,528 pts, 68K+ map updates, 20520 miles fixed, and 1704 user requests; I value your efforts, please don’t belittle what the less active users can still contribute to Waze.

The first post was JUNE 2 and the response was JULY 21 - that’s SEVEN weeks. I think you missed the change in the month when doing your calculation.

There is a significant difference between being an editor and being an Area Manager. Being an Area Manager has more responsibility than just being an editor - please see the United States Area Manager Application for more information about the responsibilities.

Waze created this policy for a few reasons 1) AMs who do not edit in three months have typically left Waze 2) AMs who have not been active in the last three months are NOT current on editing guidelines, as the app changes and improves and evolves so do the guidelines.

You can also post a message in the local forum saying you’ll be gone for an extended period of time (vacation, boredom, etc) but will be coming back. That might work in your favor to get your AM restored once you return. Not sure if the removal is automatic or not, but that might even prevent it from disappearing in the first place.

Removal is an automatic process.
