Athlone town centre refurbishment: Road closure requests

Good afternoon David,
how are you keeping?

I took a look on the map around Athlone town centre and found out that I probably missed changing a segment of the main street to one-way, but can’t do it myself as it’s locked for editing:
https://www.waze.com/editor?env=row&lon=-7.93479&lat=53.42271&s=104307991&zoom=7&segments=60134649
Could you please change the directionality of this segment to be westbound only (A->B)?

Other than that, it seems that in this part of town there won’t be any roadworks in the near future, as lovely thin bollards have been installed as to make the road narrower and to discourage illegal parking and stopping.

Thanks,
and enjoy your weekend!
Gal

'afternoon Gal.

Yep - consider it done.

(Incidentally, the reason this segment is locked at level 2 is that that’s the usual lock level for minor highway segments in areas where the road network is largely complete (like here). I generally prefer to lock as little as possible, except for higher value roads.)

Conveniently, this makes the left turn from Mardyke St onto this segment impossible, which is a good thing, because it would have been a very tight turn otherwise.

Speaking of Mardyke St, does it have a yield or stop sign at this junction where it becomes the R446? If there’s no such sign and traffic can head west without pause, then we should change the junction geometry, because with the current angles, it’ll tell drivers to turn left as they’re heading west.

That’s good news - it sounds like it’s just about complete - or do you think there might be more to com in the future? I still have a reminder set up to remind me to ask you every two weeks if there have been any more changes, but if the whole project is finished then I can cancel the reminder.

Thanks for keeping an eye on all of this!

Hi David,
Brilliant - thanks!

Treading carefully here, as I’m away from a computer for the weekend:
There’s a newish stop sign on the right turn from Mardyke Street to R446. The actual geometry of the junction was altered to create a nearly 90° turn in place of the old sharp one.
On R446 itself there should be no prompt at all, IMHO.

I was quite certain that this part will be refurbished as well, but this bollard installation made me wonder… Can’t say for sure.

Anyway - thanks for everything David!

Sounds good - in that case, the current setup is correct: users will be prompted to turn right when heading west along the R915 part of Mardyke St, but when heading west on R446 Sean Costello St, there will be no prompt at all. Now that R446 Sean Costello St is one way east->west, the old sharp left turn is no longer possible, so that makes thing simpler.

Grand so. In that case we can call this project finished (for now). I’ll cancel my reminders so I won’t be bothering you every two weeks

If and when any further works take place, we’ll deal with them then - so if you notice anything, then please let us know.

Thanks for all your help so far in tracking the changes here!

Good stuff.
Thanks, David, for all your help with this - and for teaching me quite a few things about Waze!
