ialangford, I believe any editor can join in on it. That’s the great thing about map raids. Once we get the location and dates worked out, we’ll release the form for interested editors.

What exactly happens in a map raid?
Its where editors either local experts or overseas ones register their interest to MapRaid a set area that Waze has identified needs attention. Ie Melbourne.
Then on a agreed start day, all the editors who registered be given access to the polygon area to fix up roads, UI, POI and anything that needs fixing. UL of the editor still applies, so if an editor is only Lvl-4, they cannot edit 5 & 6 locks. The MapRaid runs for 7-14 days (whatever is deemed necessary to complete all outstanding issues) and then everyone’s editing area expires who didn’t normally have access prior. Local and international champs monitor the area to ensure edits are good and to an extent act as the raid supervisors. Such people are usually the CM’s of the country. In some cases experienced Lvl-4 editors given the responsibility of looking after an area.
MapRaids are great to address a lot of outstanding issues in a very short amount of time as you have many people online all editing at once.
Stats are posted after the MapRaid and it’s an easy way to get more points.

Are any of our capital cities lacking in enough detail?
I would have thought the best map raid in Australia would be all rural roads, though this is boring editing over thousands of square kilometers.
I suppose the Places feature could use some work in all capital cities.
Waze has advised that Melbourne and Sydney are the 2 best places for a MapRaid. So we’ll give it crack and see how we go…
