Steps to reproduce this issue:
There is an active closure where URs can be seen indicating that it is no longer present, in addition to GPS traces clearly crossing the closure.
However, the closure does not lift automatically, despite the “ignore traffic” checkbox not being selected.
If I am correct, vehicles driving over a closure will only temporarily remove the closure but the closure will go back to active until the hard end time of the closure. I am thinking that the “ignore traffic” checkbox prevents the temporary removing.
After discussing this issue internally, we found that the traffic detection mechanism for this closure had not worked as expected and therefore an internal ticket has been opened for in-depth investigation.
What we have found is that the current system uses certain heuristics that could cause road closures with low Waze traffic to become suspended and then get reactivated, which is what we have observed here.
This will be taken into account in future improvements to better handle road closures.
