Available parking spot

Hello,

Today, like everyday, i was looking for a available parking spot near home.

So, why not create a new type of event : Parking spot !
And everytime you take your car (to work or whatever), you can indicate to waze that you’re leaving a parking spot. People next to you can know where to park easier and everybody is happy.

In big city, i think it could be a very useful tool, isn’t it ?

Waze has parking spot locating on their future roadmap.

OK, great news !
Because I’m sure that could be a very useful feature

I’m very sceptical about this one. Seems a little too real time for Waze. And a little too micro. Can you imagine 1000 people entering a city centre looking for parking and wind gets out about a single parking spot? Carnage would ensue.

I think this is a nice idea in theory but totally infeasible in practise.

Maybe you shouldn’t mark available parking places, but just the full ones

But in a big city when you create the event, dozens of people will go to there at the same time. I think that would be useful in suburban areas but not in big cities

How do specialist apps deal with this?

But we know that waze is at least thinking about parking.

The notes from the 2013 meetup from Ehud related to parking/parking lots: “Ehud said he wanted to include all driveable surfaces and annotate all parking lots, no matter how small. He said this would allow waze to tell someone where to park (based on the parking history of folks going to the same destination).”

NOTE TO EDITORS: THIS DOES NOT MEAN WE ARE MAPPING ALL LANES OF PARKING LOTS. THE CURRENT US MAPPING GUIDELINES ARE IN THE WIKI AND STATE THAT WE MAP MAIN DRIVING PATHS ONLY.

Noam also mentioned parking in his talk at the meetup, but those notes are not for public consumption. Ehud’s comment, which is included in the public notes, along with the publicly available patent info, is clear enough, IMO.

I didn’t want a way to research and ask waze a free parking place (because that’ll be a carnage for sure, I totally agree).
But just have the possibility to see free spot on the map (like cops or roadworks).

You leave your parking place, you tell waze and everyone driving arround will see a popup “parking”.
No research function or whatever

For the moment, I use the “chat function” but i don’t know if this is efficient.

I think a good way of implementing parking information would be a report screen for “Parking Availablilty”, with the options to choose either “Empty”, “25% Full”, ‘50% Full’, ‘75% Full’ and “100% Full”. This will create a report which would relate to a parking lot landmark if you’re in one, or it will create a standard report on a road, which would only display in the app if you a navigating to a destination in the area which has parking reports (so the reports don’t bother Wazers who aren’t parking). My two cents!

The Waze method may or may not include that type of reporting information, based on the details of the patent linked to previously in this thread.
