Hello all, I’m an Uber driver and I live and work in a very dangerous part of Mexico, I mostly work at night and there are certain roads that one should just not drive on. Some times the roads in certain neighborhoods are so bad that not even the police enter those areas. Unfortunately for me and many other Uber drivers (especially those of us that work at night), there is at times no way of knowing exactly what part of town one is in, [addresses are a mess out here, so looking at the pickup or destination address is mostly useless], and one can easily end up without knowing, (or even intending to) in an area where one can find him or herself in a life-threatening situation.
A perfect solution for this would be the ability to set streets that one is unwilling to travel through or maybe a granular geofencing feature and have Waze rout around those areas while letting us know that this is happening. Also, if a destination is set to end up in one of these marked off streets then Waze can alert us (leaving it up to the driver if he wants to continue or cancel).
I understand that It can be set on autopilot for dangerous areas (like it is in Rio de Janeiro). but I would prefer a solution where I set my geofencing and this affects only me and my rides. Of course, this sort of implementation, on a large scale as would be necessary to serve all Waze’s users would take a lot of computing cycles and storage. so it goes without saying that it would be necessary to scaleup and that requires investment and that’s probably the reason such as already popular feature hasn’t been generally implemented and further developed.
Let me be the first to invest in my safety, I’ll gladly get rid of Youtube Music and Spotify and even pitch in another $10 to feel and be safer while driving. Finally, this paid feature can be pitched in so many ways, “Avoid areas that make you feel unsafe”, “avoid an Ex-boyfriend or girlfriend”, “avoid poor road conditions”, “avoid a certain fast-food restaurant (that you always end up visiting)”, etc.
