Best map editing practice

Overall, we follow global best practice with some small exceptions to cover local conditions, such as for road naming, speed limits, type of the roads and so on. What is described here just covers local variations from practice elsewhere.
For anything not covered here, we generally follow USA best practice - Waze Map Editor
The first and more important rule in the editing in Iceland is: “Usability, Simplicity, Retention”
Make it useful, keep it simple, and do not delete.

Waze is an app that helps its users avoid traffic, but in Iceland it’s not a real problem. The main objective is to help users reach the destination with the best route for speed and safety and not secondary to reaching the correct destination. It might seem obvious but it is not so simple in a country where the destinations are natural attractions scattered across the territory, often far from the best car parks, on dirt roads, on roads suitable only for 4x4s with fords to cross rivers, where for nine months every year , thousands of kilometers of roads are closed due to weather conditions. When editing in Iceland focus on these simple goals and not on complex solutions that have no real use for most users.
