Hello,
I’d like to know if there are any plans to improve Waze’s support for EV drivers, closer to what dedicated EV route planners already offer. Specifically:
- Filter charging stations by power output (kW) — currently there’s no way to distinguish a 50kW charger from a 350kW one before navigating there.
- Real-time availability — number of free charging bays at a station, not just its existence.
- Filter by number of charging bays — useful for avoiding stations likely to have queues.
- Live pricing per kWh — shown before selecting a charger, so drivers can compare cost, not just distance.
- Real battery-aware trip planning — using the car’s actual live SoC (not just a generic range estimate) to plan a full multi-stop route with charging times factored in, similar to how ABRP calculates arrival SoC at each stop.
- Elevation-aware energy estimates — routes with significant elevation gain (mountain passes, for example) currently don’t seem to factor grade into range predictions, which can meaningfully throw off arrival estimates.
- Automatic battery preconditioning trigger — when a DC fast charger is set as the next stop, similar to what OEM navigation systems already do.
These would make Waze genuinely competitive as an all-in-one EV navigation tool, rather than requiring drivers to switch between Waze (for live traffic) and a separate planner (for charging logic) on longer trips.
Thanks
Miguel
