This situation is becoming a nightmare. If you have to drive through the cajon pass, please do your part and ask CalTrans to speed up the construction or do anything possible to remedy the situation. They estimate it will be done sometime in 2016. I am not convinced they are working at full capacity, and that they are making decisions to pinch pennies at the cost of commuters sanity. It’s becoming more dangerous too. More people are illegally driving through closed lanes, and outside of lanes out of frustration, while other people are trying to block them. More cars are overheated and disabled. More accidents. More people pulling over just to collect their sanity. And there’s no end in sight. The CalTrans suits who make the big decisions all live in gated communities by the beach and are not the ones paying the psychological cost. Every time I go through there, I don’t see any construction taking place. Just a bunch of blocked off lanes with nothing happening.
We as editors have no control over CalTrans. When CalTrans sends out the announcements, the local editors put in the appropriate closures. I have personally emailed them and called them to get clearer instructions on the closures information. But they have not given me anything better, so we try our best with what we get. Again, Waze and the volunteer editors have NO control over CalTrans!!!
