Calgary Flood area

Hi,

as i follow the news can something be done to set the evacuated area on our map for the flood currently in place ?

thanks

Best bet would be a set of landmarks… Don’t want to break roads, as the damage may be better or worse than expected.

Haven’t seen any maps of flood area… And Calgary is having severe cell and Internet connectivity issues.

i dont know how mutch is in the area but new talk about 18 neibourghood and 100,000 people evacuated so we could do something about traffic…

here is a map !!

p.s. im an area manager in montreal …still far !!

i’ve requested AM privileges for the area as of yesterday to try to help with this, but so far it hasnt been processed. i’ve been adding flood alerts for other areas in southern alberta as i am able, keeping track so i can remove them later.

The trouble with adjusting roads is that emerg services still may need this, and it provides useful directions for the roads that still have people on them.

Take a look at the waze blog post about the southern us tornado for ideas on how to deal with this best.

i’ve been doing landmarks of evac zones and flooded areas, road closures and washouts in southern alberta – i cant do calgary or bow river portions, because my AM requests havent gone throuhg, but doing what i can where i can.

Yeah, I wish there was more we could do. I agree that breaking roads would be bad. Things are still changing too fast to do pretty much anything in the editor. By the time the changes make it to the live map, they will probably be out of date. As much as I’d like to delete eastbound Memorial Dr around 4 St (since the road is GONE), Macleod Tr northbound near the Stampede grounds was in the same situation two days ago and is now open for traffic.

It seems like user-reported road closures in the app would be best, but I’m not sure those are working either. I’ve tried reporting some myself, even multiple times, but they don’t show up on the live map. In fact, since the floods started, I haven’t seen any Map Problems or Update Requests show up in Calgary either. I assumed there would be TONS with people trying to navigate road closures, and I planned on helping clean them up, but they seem to be turned off entirely. Strange.

you can force an update as well (once the information has been updated to the server), so that at least you get your own updates  that’s what i have to do alot of times.

also for your own use: http://google.org/crisismap/2013-alberta-floods

and yes, i’ve also noticed the lack of map problems, user updates, etc.
actually - i stand corrected, they are starting to come in now as of 9:00am weds
