Calgary has now permanent all year round Playground Zones (it can be School or Playgrounds) where sometimes it’s missed by the speed limit on Waze.
I would be glad to change this on my area, but just want to know what the community think about this?
I would prefer to be alerted everytime I enter these zones, even if it’s outside the 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. (30KM/H).
Thanks
The standard we have applied is that the “permanent” speed is the one recorded in Waze. School and playground zones are usually well-marked and their reduced limits apply for fewer hours of the day than the normal limit.
Please do not change any streets to the playground / school limit.
It’s actually more than a few hours, it’s 13.5 hours out of 24, 7 days a week. Just don’t want my fellow wazers speeding because they missed the sign where kids are playing. But I understand your point.
That’s an awfully late ending to a playground zone. Are these hours on the signs?
Usually playground ends at dusk and school around 5pm… and school zones only apply on school days, so not weekends and not holidays.
About a year ago Calgary changed their playground zones to 07:30-21:00 every single day of the year. Even if the sun sets at 4pm…i still have to drive slow until 9pm.
Oh
… And to add insult to injury they also removed playground zones. They don’t exist anymore, which is why they are 7 days a week. It’s apparently easier to only have to remember a single time and a single speed limit.
The current standard is in place to stop excessive alerts for the driver. The standard being that we only add legally enforceable and permanent speed signs. Waze hasn’t implemented a time restriction on speed limits, yet. They are working on it, but it’s low on the priority list and I wouldn’t expect anything in the next year or so.
That said, the rules are put in place by the R5/R6 champs and doctorkb is the R6 champ to discuss these topics with in respect to AB. I’ll be watching this to see his thoughts.
