Call to arms - Afrikaans translation

Hi ZA Wazers,

We have completed an Afrikaans translation of the strings used in the Waze client. It’s not been taken live yet. What we need is some more people to act as fellow translators and more importantly, Reviewers, to ensure that all the strings are translated into proper words and sentences that are grammatically and syntactically correct.

If you are willing to volunteer some of your precious time for this, please PM me on the forums and you can in the meantime also sign up on Transifex using your Waze/Forum username. I’ll be able to add you to the project, just to ensure we have it checked by as many people as possible for errors.

To sign up, look at the post by Orit in the Localization sub-forum : How can you become a Waze translator?.
Simply follow step 1 & 2, which is registering on Transifex, and request to join the team.

You should then also be able to request access to join the following 2 Afrikaans translation sections :

and

Hope to see you there soon!

Just had a quick go with Afrikaans on 3.7 and all looks good. Might I suggest that the automatic option for Day/Night modes be changed to “Auto”. As it stands now there is an overflow of text with “Automaties” into the other options.

If I remember correctly you’re on an iPhone. Is it possible to do a screenshot so I can get an idea of how it looks on there ? There are likely a few strings that might not fit 100%, so it would be useful to see how much real estate it occupies vs the header line.
The Android version is just a ‘Tap to pick’ selection list with no fancy buttons or sliders.
This is how it appears on my HTC Sensation :

It’s an iPad so I don’t think the screen real estate is an issue, more how it’s used.

Thanks Kyle,

I adjusted the text yesterday to just “Outo” which should be the the equivalent of “Auto”. Some of the older translated texts have not made it’s way to the client either, but it will appear soon.
Can you verify if there any other selections that are represented with a button selection instead of an extra dialog, especially ones where the text doesn’t fit 100% ?
I’ll also check with a colleague on his iPhone if I can pick up any other funnies on the menus with the smaller screen size.
On the Apple devices the menu selections tend to use on/off sliders and buttons vs. the Android checkboxes and extra ‘line’ selection dialogs.

I’ve had a look around the menus and routing. All seems fine apart from the following:

On/Off sliders and average speed are not translated to Afrikaans. I would assume this is device specific (my device language is English but Waze is set to Afrikaans.)

When reviewing reports, Opmerkings and Bedanks are formatted incorrectly. This is for all screen orientations. See attached image

Hi guys,

This is still an ongoing project and we’re in need of some help. Unfortunately my Afrikaans is somewhat limited so I ask anyone interested to join. The process is as simple as translating a word or sentence at a time.

New sentences have been added to the app that have yet to be translated - I’m told that if users are using Afrikaans as the app language these new sentences will be in English until translated.

Head over to the Transifex website and sign in HERE. If you need some help getting set up drop me a PM.
