I am new to the android world (coming from iPhone land) so perhaps this is just me being ignorant. I am trying to set Waze as the default navigation app on my HTC Sensation Device. When I am in a browser and then click a hyperlink address to get directions I am prompted to select a default application for the task and Waze is not in the list. Is it possible to get Waze to show up in the list or is this a Waze limitation?

This is a function of your phone, not Waze.
Just get the Waze Ap and install it on your phone.

I believe that Dave wants to click say on an address in another app and have it automatically launch Waze and set a route to the address that he clicked. I don’t know that Waze natively supports this.
This is a multi-part issue: 1a) can the device be set to recognize a “nav” URL? I don’t even know what that means, but some phones do seem recognize these and launch the default nav app; 1b) can the device OS settings be changed to launch a different app? 2) the nav app must be able to receive the URL and act appropriately.
On my Android, I have seen Waze offered in the context of some apps, and not in others’. I’ll have to pay closer attention to which ones.
A few things I have noticed. The address links seem to only show up in the HTC Sense Browser (I think this is the proper name for it?). Then when I click on the address link in the browser a list of apps popup in a box called “Complete action using” with a “Use by default for this action.” tick box at the bottom. The apps in the list are Firefox, Dolphin Browser HD, Internet (The HTC Sense Browser), Google Maps and TeleNav GPS Navigator.
The question I have is what determines when / how these apps show up in this popup? Is it something coded into the HTC Sense browser, something coded into the apps that show up in the box or both? The fact that apps I installed such as Firefox, Dolphin Browser HD and Google Maps show up suggests that maybe it’s something that has to be programmed into the apps that show up in the list. It seems highly improbable that HTC Sense Browser has been coded to look for “Dolphin Browser HD”. It seems more reasonable to think that the HTC Sense Browser is adhering to some standard that the apps showing in the list have employed to show up in the list.
Perhaps a developer can provide a definitive answer.
Still not a Waze thing. It would be what ever browser you’re using. Does it bring up Garmin or Tom Tom? Sort of like “Send to” in Windows when you click on a jpg file. It’s not Xnview or Photoshop. It’s directed by Windows.
Not 100% true as Waze would have to know how to handle a URL passed by the OS. I do not think it would do this yet. Perhaps once they add the ability to handle it, they also can “register” with the mobile OS as a handler of some kind?
Perhaps. Reason suggests that it’s likely a function of both browser and navigation app. :). Hopefully this will be seen as a request for a new feature.

I opened a location from Twitter earlier today and it gave me options to choose between Maps and Waze. When I tapped Waze, it opened the app and dropped a pin on the map. So it’s definately working for me.
This was using Tweetcaster on my HTC Desire.
You can already use the Drive to function using Waze. Well…at least for contacts with an address in your phone book. so if you wan to drive to a friends house, just tap their name. Google voice might even be able to do this i.e. “navigate to joe bloggs”, but it definitely works with contacts, just tap and choose Waze.

Waze is coded in such way that when it’s installed it tells Android (by something called “intents”) that it is a “map-application”.
Any app that can recognize an adress or map location and will try to show it will tell Android that it needs a “map-app” that can support this, so Android will then present all apps that has “said” that they can do this.
Because of this, Waze will popup as an alternative for navigation, and the location (or adress) will be the search-query for Waze
This is how Android presents proper apps for any file-types, like pictures, videos, text etc.
