I was driving a long distance back home today and my wife was going to meet me somewhere close to the house. She kept calling me asking if I was in traffic and if I would be on time.
So I was thinking… It’d be great if she could go on the waze.com live maps and see me as a wazer on the map and follow my progress. Is this something that’s possible already? Can we allow people to follow us on a map?
You can’t “follow” someone in the sense that they will get updates on your location, but you CAN just look at the live map and observe someone’s location. You have to mouse over the wazer icons to figure out what their username is.
You have to keep in mind that wazer locations in the client AND live map are not updated real time for privacy purposes.
I figured that was the case. I just thought it would a nice idea to “share” your location with someone. Maybe by sending them an email or something with a code to be able to view your location progress. I think it would be a nice addition to the “social” aspect of waze.
Also note that the live map only shows (at least per the description) the last 10 wazers. I don’t know what last 10 implies (last 10 updates, last 10 logged in, ?) but based on just watching it, it does filter the list down a lot and it doesn’t try to limit based on zoomed in level.
Yes, this is what I noticed to, which is why I was wondering if it was possible at all to follow wazers on the map.
For what you are looking for I use Google Latitude, the “social” side of Google Maps for mobile devices and PCs. You send your wife an invite to share your location and she can track you almost real time on the PC.
Eventually you’ll need to know this: If you need some me-time, you can hide from all users sharing your location or just a particular user… or can fake your location all together. 
Turn on ETA reporting on twitter/facebook. My gf loves it 
Another option would be Cellflare. I use it to keep a detailed record of all my driving (been using it since before I found Waze). You can set it up so someone can go to the website, type in ur cell number and a custom pin, and they’ll see your location in real time…
