Car Free Lanes in DC

Car free lanes are coming to DC in “late July 2020”… this is for expanded eateries and social distancing…

Buses and bicycles can use the following,

  1. 7th St NW
    • Between Massachusetts and Pennsylvania Ave NW (Buses and bicycles only)
    • 7th St NW between I St NW and Indiana Ave NW (Buses, bicycles, and trucks can also use)
    • G St NW between 8th St NW and 7th St NW (Buses, bicycles, and trucks can also use)

these are now 24/7

some things to work out right turning vehicles permitted to access garages north of I St NW and Indiana Ave NW (eastbound)

  1. Martin Luther King Jr Ave SE Basically this is rush hour for one lane only so no restrictions required in Waze (since public transportation is not a vehicle option now) and all traffic is allowed.
  • Between W St SE and St. Elizabeth’s East Campus (Buses and bicycles only)
Operates with peak direction during morning and evening rush hours (nb 7 am to 9:30 am; sb 4 pm to 6:30 pm)
  1. M St SE Basically this is rush hour for one lane only so no restrictions required in Waze (since public transportation is not a vehicle option now) and all traffic is allowed.

    • Between Half St SE and 10th St SE (Buses and bicycles only)

Operates with peak direction during morning and evening rush hours (7 am to 9:30 am and 4 pm to 6:30 pm)

NOTE I have a call into DC Government to clarify about the garage access coming out and verifying the start date

Here is a sheet with the implementation of the new restrictions. Permalinks and mentions of TBSR, TBTRs, and u-turns included.
