An option for driving with a caravan would be a welcome addition. Waze has tried to reroute me off the highway and through the hills/mountains multiple times. It’s fine in a regular passenger car, but with 1,600kg behind my car, it’s really not ideal. So be very alert if Waze sends you off the highway!
Hi @techniekman! ![]()
Towing a caravan behind your car makes it very annoying (and sometimes even risky) when a navigation app sends you through hilly terrain—I totally agree with you there!
Unfortunately, most popular navigation apps like Waze, Google Maps, Apple Maps, Flitsmeister, and even TomTom don’t take into account that you’re driving with a trailer or caravan. Things like length, weight, height restrictions, or steep inclines are usually not factored in.
If you hit the road with a caravan more often, it might definitely be worth investing in a dedicated GPS like the ones from Garmin (e.g., the Camper or Dezl series). These systems are specifically developed for motorhomes and caravans, allowing you to enter vehicle data and have your routes adjusted accordingly. They aren’t cheap, but they do offer a lot more security and peace of mind on the road.
Until then: do stay alert, and use your common sense if your route suddenly changes unexpectedly. Ultimately, as the driver, you remain responsible for the route you take.
Safe travels!
