City of Chanhassen, Minnesota - Saddlebrook Curve Cut-Through Traffic

I’m reaching out on behalf of the City of Chanhassen in an effort to eliminate to the maximum extent practicable routing of vehicles through a local street here in Chanhassen, MN, known as Saddlebrook Curve, which is the corridor adjacent to 940 Saddlebrook Curve, for reference. The corridor extends from Powers Blvd to Kerber Blvd.

The City has received multiple complaints over the years from property owner’s along Saddlebrook Curve of “cut-through” traffic, and in response a traffic study was conducted. The results from the study concluded that Saddlebrook Curve is in fact experiencing cut-through traffic on a regular basis. While the City will be installing speed calming measures with a separate project along with other improvements to try and help mitigate the issue, residents have asked the City to advocate on their behalf to the wayfinding companies the removal of this local road as a viable route when it is not associated with the origin or destination of the user utilizing the routing service.

Any assistance you might be able to provide would be greatly appreciated. We look forward to hearing back regarding the request.

Are you prohibiting all thru traffic on this street with regulatory signs?

What alternate streets would you want traffic to take to/from Powers Blvd that we would be prioritizing?

It seems like this is probably mostly people going to/from their houses, and the only alternate would be Kerber Blvd, which is also just a local street not like a collector or anything. We already have W 78th St set as a higher priority for traffic to use going to/from the businesses along it.

As part of the regional community leadership, I understand the concern. However, as had been the case everywhere else that has made a similar request, per Waze policy, we will not be removing a legal route from our map.

If the city posts this road as “No Through Traffic,” we absolutely will be happy to change the map to prevent through routing.
