Can anyone tell me how to handle the placement of average speed cameras?
I can’t find anything in the Wiki regarding how to do it; I mean, do we need to place a camera at the beginning or even at the end so that users know where it starts and ends? Or is it enough to just check the box where the road speed is set, because users don’t seem to be happy with that.
I’m saying this because I have countless URs in the Valencia area indicating that it doesn’t warn about the average speed camera; I imagine they are — or we are — used to the icon appearing where the camera is, rather than looking at the bar that shows our progress through the average speed camera section.
I hope you can clear this up for me, as I seem to recall it being mentioned once to put a camera at the end of the section, but I don’t see anything in the Wiki, and the forum posts I find are from before the update and won’t even open anymore.
I think it should be put IN WRITING how to set up average speed cameras; otherwise, everyone will do it their own way.
A few years ago, they were placed at the end because CarPlay or Android Auto didn’t notify you when it ended.
It’s no longer necessary to put it there, because it alerts you when entering, when exiting, and it’s also shown during the trip.
What some editors do is place a fake camera so the icon at least appears on the map, especially when it’s new, to make it easy to locate even if you’re going in the opposite direction. But it’s not really necessary.
By the way, there was a bug with average speed cameras a while ago, where they sometimes wouldn’t trigger an alert if the intermediate segments weren’t all in the same order A->B (or vice versa B->A).
I seem to remember it being fixed already, but you can check just in case that’s what’s happening.
In principle, cameras are not added.
Waze already warns you via voice and with the average speed camera bar; I don’t remember if the non-TTS voice alerts via a voice prompt or a beep.
There are some average speed cameras that have a fixed speed camera just a few meters before the start; in that case, the speed camera should be added, but I seem to recall there needs to be a distance of at least 35m so that it warns for both.
There are average speed zones that have entries and exits along the route; I believe that if you enter or exit during an average speed camera stretch, the camera doesn’t track you. Waze still announces that you are entering an average speed zone (we can’t do anything about that), but should there be a warning for every exit/end of the zone?
I don’t think so; when the bar disappears, the average speed camera is no longer active.
Based on how Waze works now, I don’t think it makes sense to add any kind of camera to an average speed zone.
Another thing is to see why Waze isn’t warning about the average speed camera. Is there something before it that cancels the alert? Another type of camera? A permanent hazard? What voice are users using (if they have voice enabled)?
But I see that you aren’t giving a resounding YES or NO either; you’re saying that: … it used to be done before … it isn’t necessary … some people put up dummy cameras … it’s when it’s new.
For a person who has never traveled that route, it will always be NEW, even if it has been installed for years.
So now the doubt arises: I’ll add them, and another editor doesn’t?
Will there be areas of the map edited one way and others in another?
That’s why I was saying the Wiki doesn’t say anything, so whatever I do, I’m not contradicting Waze’s rules.
I suggest that the Wiki clarifies this, or at least records the steps for “editing”.
I’ll look into what you were saying @pacasa about the direction of the A → B segment.
Los radares de tramo NO se editan con cámaras visible en la app . Los radares de tramo tienen anuncios sonoros con antelación suficiente.
Es resto de radares y cámaras se utilizarán con el uso para el que han sido creado .
