Construction works Streeton Drv, Cotter Rd, Dixon Drv& Unwin

Hi all,
There are changes taking place in this area. See this notice. The aerial image is NOT correct.
I’ve been through here and used my drive lines to re-align the intersection of Dixon Drive and Unwin Street with Streeton Drive. Yes, they are now aligned at a bit of an angle forming one intersection. The only problem is that some helpful editors out there have undone my work.
At least my edits are now in the live map.

I also reflected the traffic switches (where one carriage way crosses to the other and becomes a two way on the wrong side) and these were also removed. This was all correct on Saturday night based on my drive through on Saturday afternoon.
I plan to keep the area up to date as the construction work progresses, so please leave things alone here unless you have up to date, on the ground knowledge.

Cheers

Now to put things back the way it was (is!)

I’ve put back my edits.
In doing so I had one thought, that the intersection of Dixon Drive and Unwin Street with Streeton Drive should probably become a bow tie as its now traffic light controlled (don’t want the routing engine suggesting u-turns there). However, as only one side of Streeton Drv is open for now it probably doesn’t matter and would probably only serve to confuse further. I’d suggest the bow tie be inserted when the road works are complete.

alig, I believe the permalink of the area you refer to is the following, please correct me if I’m mistaken:

Can you advise me which user changed your edits?

ps_au, Yes that’s the area. Sorry for not including a permalink. I’ve sent a PM re user name.

Hi all,
I just went by here tonight and found that the closed segments of Streeton Dr and Cotter Rd are now open, so I’ve made updates to the Waze map to reopen the closed segments. See official advice here: http://www.economicdevelopment.act.gov.au/have-your-say/community_engagement/current_activities/2013_cotter_road_and_streeton_drive_updates. You can find an aerial photo of this area not quite finished in this link too.

I haven’t made changes to the original geometry of the Streeton Dr/Cotter Rd intersection. I wondered about ‘bow tie-ing’ Streeton Dr but feared that would lead to missing road reports. I expect the left turn from Streeton Dr to Cotter Rd will probably also generate missing road reports. I also wonder if the short two way segment between the ‘bow-tie’ of Cotter Rd should go. (comments?)

Alternatively, would it be better to split the part of Cotter Rd immediately to the east and turn the intersection into a ‘box’?

Note that the Waze aerial image is out of date.

If you’re dead set on the split road I would say bow tie and leave the east as it is.
Personally I would unsplit John Gorton/ cotter rd just like the east side, as it doesn’t meet the criteria for a split road.

"A road can be split into be 2 one-way roads if all of the following conditions are met:
The central reservation is greater than 15m.
(which I doubt it meets from memory)
There’s a visible gap between the GPS traces.
It is split by physical barrier (e.g. Grass, raised concrete, jersey barrier etc).
"

However if people are dead set for split road along there (like they are for streeton) and cotter road to the parkway then probably still bowtie it and if it throws up errors we’ll box it then.

Thanks for the views Cantanga.
I’ve bow tied the intersection with the exception of the eastern Cotter Rd part which remains unsplit.

PS Shouldn’t that bit in the wiki about the gap between GPS traces be qualified with a zoom level? I think the US page specifies 500ft zoom level?

Probably should to clear it up a bit, I’ve always used the 100m/500ft rule, which as you said is in the generic split/unsplit wiki
