I am confused as to why I cannot generate a route down TN-111 from Cookeville to Chattanooga. The Livemap suggests two routes to take:
I-40 W to TN-840 to I-24 E
OR
I-40 E to US-321 to I-75 S to I-24 W
The obvious best route would be to take TN-111 S to US-27 S since it is at least an hour shorter, but this is not offered as an option. I have checked the entire route for items that would generate a routing error and resolved a bunch over the past several months. Now, I see no reason why this route is not given as an option. When I ask for directions via the Livemap for various overlapping portions from one city to another (i.e. Cookeville to Spencer, Sparta to Chattanooga, etc.), the routing is fine.
Can someone help me understand why this is happening?
Try this: go to the LiveMap, start at TN-111 at one city, and ask for a route to the other. Then check out the route it gives … the point at which it directs you away from TN-111 is a good spot to look for errors, disconnected roads, restricted turns, or other routing problems.
I can generate routes from Cookeville to Spencer and it is routed correctly. I then can generate another route between Sparta and Chattanooga and it is routed correctly. I can pick any two of the cities listed and it routes fine unless I pick Cookeville to Chattanooga.
Odd … tried starting at S Jefferson Ave in Cookeville – it looks like it’ll go as far as Lewis Church Rd before abandoning TN-111 as the primary route; going as far as Jones Gap Rd, it’s the second option listed (even though it’s only 74 minutes instead of the 168 that the first option gives!). After Jones Gap Rd, TN-111 isn’t even considered … but I don’t see any problems from there on, especially considering that it routes on TN-111 from Lewis Church Rd all the way into Chattanooga with no problems.
