Anyone know why the CP Rail line was deleted from the western border of Calgary all the way out to Canmore?
I know it doesn’t seem important especially since railways aren’t/weren’t displayed in the app, but it shouldn’t have been deleted outright (leaving in sections in Canmore, Calgary, and Cochrane along the way).
I’ve roughed it back in, but the curves are going to need some finessing, and there are a couple of places along the way where the aerial shot is rather low resolution, so the route there was done with my best guess/recollection of the area.
Somebody’s been at it again. This single segment is all that remains of the CP mainline between Canmore, AB and Chilliwack, BC. Several hundred km of rail has been eliminated.
Doctorkb (or anyone else in the know), is there a way for you higher admins to look back and find out who’s doing this?
Not easily. I am pretty sure they have to put in a request to Waze to look through code logs to find out who. Can’t remember what forum I read that in.
Maybe it has changed. One way or another it’ll be nice when the add the history feature to WME.
Sadly, the only way to get any sort of logs is to request it of Staff. Typically these requests are made when there is A LOT of damage being done – it would be hard for them to weed out a few railroad segments.
That said, were they locked before? To what rank? If 4, our options are somewhat limited… if 3 or lower, then it could have been just about anybody.
Also, to help diagnose it in the future, can you ensure that it is broken up into several segments?
I’m not sure where (if it all) it would have been broken up, so it could have been one lazy delete and BAM all gone…
I’m all for having this included. The client will be showing railroads in the future, and this is good information to have (along with lakes, rivers, etc.)
I don’t know if they were locked. The surviving segment is level 1 which leads me to believe that the answer is no. I can resurrect everything as far west as Sicamous, which I drove to recently. Should I lock it to 4 if/when I rebuild?

If it’s deleted after that point, let me know and we’ll raise h-e-double-hockey-sticks to get the 4+ reprimanded.
It’s probably worth writing up a blurb on the railroads for the wiki, too. One feeling: keep the name short (i.e. “CN Rail” rather than “Canadian National Railway Mainline”).
If we are going to standardize on abbreviations, I would prefer we go with “CN” and “CPR,” which is how those companies refer to themselves now. They haven’t called themselves “CN Rail” and “CP Rail” since them mid-1990s. But of course among the public, and even the media, old habits die hard.
That’s an interesting idea… At the moment I do like keeping “Rail” in there as the client display is not necessarily known for distinguishing between different road types that well.
We can, of course, revise this in the future if we see that the client is showing them as something that looks like rail.
