CT Landmark Guideline Updates

I’m starting to clean up my home area in CT since it hasn’t really been touched much, and I wanted to make sure I’m conforming with the latest guidelines for general map editing. Specifically I want to make sure I’m using the latest guidance for landmarks in this state since the CT Landmark wiki hasn’t been updated in over a year (yes I’m volunteering to help keep it up-to-date ). If this is not the best place to ask for clarification on specific items, let me know and I will adjust. I’ll start with a simple example:

In the CT Landmark guidelines wiki, it states that Post Offices should be named “Post Office”, but it seems that many are named “US Post Office”. Which should I be using? If the wiki is correct I will fix the post offices in WME to read “Post Office”. If the wiki is not correct, I can update it to reflect “US Post Office” and fix any landmarks I find in WME that are not named as such.

Well, the near-final US Landmark Guidelines says “Post Office” too…

I think I’ve been bouncing between “Post Office” & “US Post Office” on all the ones I’ve been fixing (they said things like “06105 Post Office” or “Darien Post Office”…

Who thinks which is better?

My opinion: I am a minimalist, so my preference is to keep it simple: Post Office. I think adding US is redundant since I don’t believe there are any post offices in the USA that are not US Post Offices (correct me if I am wrong). Also, in the event that POI ever goes live in Waze and landmark names are used for searching in the client, I believe people are more likely to search for “Post Office” rather than “US Post Office”, so naming it “Post Office” would increase the likelihood of a 100% match

As an aside – what can I do to help to ‘codify’ some of the guidance you’ve laid out in the CT and Near-Final guidelines at the country level? I have been doing minor edits in some random areas all over the eastern seaboard, and things are drastically different all over the place. Would be helpful to interstate travelers if things were more standardized.
