Hi editors!
Hope you are all doing well.
As part of Kindness month, we shared with your community leaders a cultural trivia game that they were invited to share with you. The aim of the trivia was to have some fun and learn how gestures can mean different things, according to the country. Hopefully we’ll get to practice them next time we meet ![]()
*Please note these insights were taken from the countries that participated in the cutura trivia and are by no means conclusive.
Let’s dive in the insights!
-10 countries participated in the cultural trivia - thanks for completing it!
-How would you sign “Wait a minute” - for Israelies?
51% of you think this gesture means wait a moment for Israelis:

-That said, some of you shared that you use this gesture when you want to say: talk to the hand!
-If you want to say wait a moment like a true Israeli, you should use this gesture instead:

-What about the American way of saying “Rock On”?
Almost 90% of you agree that in the US, this gesture is used to say Rock on!!

-Interestingly enough you recognize that the same gesture is used in many other countries to express your partner might be cheating on you! Oops!
-We have some avid divers among the community that shared with us that under water, this is the gesture you would use to say everything is ok:

-Use this gesture - and move your hand close to your lips-to say the food was amazing like a true Brazilian! A comida está deliciosa!

And last but not least, there’s a gesture that you said means many different things: tudo beleza, all is good, ok, understood, show approval, or for divers - swim upwards:

Thanks again everyone for being part of this cultural trivia and Kindness Month! :!:
During these uncertain times, it is important that we are kind to each other.
Hugs,
Maia on behalf of the Kindness Month team
