Dangerous intersections request in Millstone, New Jersey

Hi Editors,

We’re a concerned group of residents in Monmouth County and would love your help on marking some intersections as Dangerous/Complex. If you’re not familiar with the area, it’s a pretty rural part of NJ which has poor visibility, prevalence of speeding, and no local law enforcement force. We are attending a County meeting tonight in hopes of additional additional safety measures. https://www.co.monmouth.nj.us/documents/30/CR-524_PIC_Notice.pdf

I understand your concerns - this was the area I first covered as a paramedic decades ago. And I’ve landed in a horse pasture out there as a flight nurse (for a motor vehicle crash). I’m sure the explosive population growth has made those lonely roads so much less lonely and thus mor dangerous. Improvements for safety are certainly needed out there, and I”m very glad you are pushing the DOT to make changes!

That said, I’m not sure we have a permanent hazard in Waze that’s appropriate for this use case. We don’t have a “dangerous intersection” warning, only a “complex intersection” warning. Unfortunately, the first link shows a simple cross-intersection with one direction having stop signs. Visibility in all directions looks adequate on street view.
My fear is that if we mark intersections such as this as “complex” drivers will get frustrated with the inaccurate warning and begin to ignore the announcement when it is accurate - a “cried wolf” scenario.

Of course, I don’t have the final say on anything. I’ll let the rest of the NJ Volunteer Leadership weigh in. Perhaps we can temporarily add a hazard warning while the State and County fix up the roads?
