The ramp off monument ave (robert drive) to i-75 south is now closed for construction, probably for a year or so.
permalink?
buckeyetraffic doesn’t say anything about Monument Avenue ramps being closed, nor does the December 2012 update show “Monument Ave” under the “Ramps Permanently/Temporarily Closed” at the bottom. However, the text of the update mentions them, implying that they’ll be closed just during the lane shift operation.
Are the Monument Avenue ramps still closed or was it just for a few days?
[I also sent some email to ODOT asking for clarification]
I am a local and used to be able to edit this area before the big change a while back.
All exits in Dayton are closed between US-35 and Main St. Also I-75 south is routed onto Northbound lanes. Exits will be closed till 2016!
here is the construction link for this project: http://www.downtowndayton.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=258
I’mn not going to get into the middle of this.
I received some email back from ODOT late last week and tried to correct some things based on that. Please PM me if you still see issues.
I’ve been trying to follow the ODOT press releases in updating this area. They talk about things closing, but they’re often ambiguous about whether the closures are for the duration of the project or just while the changeover is happening (I had the same problem in Columbus with the I-670 changeover a few weeks back-- ODOT posted all sorts of things about ramps closing in conjunction with the changeover and I assumed they meant “closed until further notice”. Come to find out, they meant “closed for the 24 hours while we change the traffic flow”. Since then, I’ve been gun-shy of making any changes solely based on press releases that don’t specifically mention a duration (or even an “until further notice”) and have tried to contact the engineers[’ representatives] directly.)
Thanks for the pointer to the “Downtown Dayton” site; it seems to be a bit more specific (though, to someone who hasn’t driven the area in a few years, their “All southbound ramps in downtown Dayton” is confusing-- after communicating with ODOT, they said the southbound/northbound ramps to SR 4 are open. But I guess that isn’t actually in “downtown”?).
jgs109 contact me by PM regarding this mess and I replied to him and copied it to jhfrontz and Mattiedale.
I suggested that jgs109 work with jhfrontz and Mattiedale to resolve this, before I was aware of this forum thread.
jhfrontz replied to me and pointed to this thread.
This should really be handled by a local AM or CM who can actually field verify everything. I would suggest that everyone continue to use this thread to resolve this, rather than sending multiple PMs to various people.
Since jhfrontz is already active there as a level 5 editor, it would be best for the local AMs to request any necessary unlocks to him via this thread.
[Note to jhfrontz: Rather than use railroads, it may be better to use a landmark polygon. Other CMs have been effectively using them to explain various map situations.]
I would also suggest that unless a ramp or road segment is to be permanently removed by construction , that it remain on the map, and be disconnected (and locked) to show the temporary status, and to help avoid others from adding them back in based on outdated aerial views.
Speaking of which, can someone in the area do a drive-by of the Keowee exit from SR-4 N/E? There’s a UR that says it’s been signed to prevent exiting, but ODOT says it should be open.
OK, will do-- I’ve lost track of which landmarks don’t show up in the app-- is there a preferred type to use? Also, in the case of the “The Grand Changeover”, they basically put both I-75N and I-75S on the same road. I essentially moved the I-75S segments over to the I-7S side (since the distance between the two is quite significant in some places, resulting in URs about map errors, showing them tracking south down the I-75N segments). Would it have been better to leave the legacy I-75S and draw a new I-75S closer to the I-75N segments?
Keowee exit is open from Sr-4 in both directions. Just drove by there a few hours ago. One problem I do see is that the exits are listed as highways instead of exit ramps.
Basically just use the “other” landmark type, and make it small enough that it is not obvious in the client.
We had a similar situation up here in NW Ohio where the two I-475 bridges crossing over the Maumee River were closed one at a time to be rebuilt. During each bridge rebuild I added a segment on the open bridge for the direction of travel needed, and connected it the temporary cross-overs. I left the old segments intact for the closed bridge and just disconnected them. Other than the URs generated due to the lag between edits and the map tiles updates back then, the edits worked fine once in the client
