There are a number of intersections where left turns are restricted by illuminated signs during certain hours, but unfortunately there is no permanent signage at the intersection indicating the hours of restriction. Example: northbound 16th St to westbound Park Rd (permalink). I’ll add others to this thread as I come across them.
A similar case is Georgia and Kansas Avenues (permalink), where a part-time no-left-turn restriction seems to have been added after the most recent StreetView picture was taken.
If anyone is familiar with a particular intersection, please either set a timed turn restriction or post a note here so that others can do it. The question is, are turns restricted during morning rush hour (7:00 to 9:30), afternoon rush hour (16:00-18:30), both, or throughout the span that includes both rush hours (7:00 to 18:30; rare, but there are a few like this)?
For Northbound 16th St- the sign is to tell you it’s 2 lanes / 3 lanes. I don’t think there are turn restrictions at that intersection. It has a turn arrow. I changed it to green for now - I guess we will see if we get no turn allowed user reports.
I believe those are restricted in the morning and afternoons - just like every other K st intersection. I haven’t seen any user no turn pop-ups since I put those restrictions in.
A user reported that at 4:15 the sign was lit saying no left turns. I’m assuming they have since updated a restriction from 4-6:30 but failed to update the sign at the intersection. Can anyone put that restriction in?
Bladensburg NE heading north at New York Ave has an electronic sign above the light. I used to think it was a morning/afternoon sign but after looking at it on StreetView, it has a traditional sign right below the traffic light.
No left turn is ever permitted here. You need to do a NJ-style jughandle: go right on Pine St and left on Park Rd. There are two signs at the Pine St turnoff saying to go right for Park Rd.
Is DC able to update/ change the signs at the control center to affect the traffic flow?
If so, I wounder if there is a way for Waze to get the feed. It would be helpful for major event down town, when the light timing is changed. Example 4th of July.
