Hey friends,
Would you like to mentor a member of the Waze staff?
Apply here by May 11, 2025.
Project Eagle: Round 3, is starting in June 2025
What’s Project Eagle?
A training project for small groups of Waze staffers, where they:
- Get a basic training on WME, internally, by other Waze staffers
- And then, are matched with you - community mentors, since with your support they can get the full experience -
- Learn how to edit
- Get to know your local community
- Hear about your challenges and experience them first hand
Rounds 1 and 2 of Eagle proved to be extremely valuable for both staff and community members, thanks to your support!
More information:
- Timeline: June - August 2025
- Please apply only if your mentee can have a relatively unmapped area to train on
- We will ask mentors to create a list of tasks for their mentees to complete
- Your staff mentee will be an L1, and will get editing permissions in the area you specify
- You and your mentee will decide on your preferred way to communicate (Call? Chat? Email? Up to you)
- Language: Most of the mentees speak English and Hebrew
Who can apply?
- L4+ editor
- A mentor who can teach where local signs use latin characters (except for Russian speaking mentor and mentees)
- A mentor who can direct the staff mentee to a location with lots of editing needs - if you’re a booster this is a great fit
Can’t wait to get your applications
Thanks and have a great day,
Anat and Brett on behalf of the team.

Hi @Anat-S-Staff! I don’t mean to sound lazy, but how time would this mentoring opportunity require? Would the mentee staff member be editing the map (and in need of a mentor) for 8 hours a day, six months running? Or would it be manageable for a hobby mentor, whose time is already being drawn upon by other time-consuming duties in Waze (and elsewhere)?

Hey,
Great question as always
The mentor is expected to communicate with the mentee until Eagle ends: for around 7 weeks (they’re welcome to continue after Eagle ends).
During those 7 weeks, staff members are asked to commit to 1-3 hours a week, during which they communicate with their mentor (chat / email / calls are usually harder to set up) AND practice editing on their own -
So the breakdown ideally would be 1 hour a week with the mentor, and 2 more hours of practice.
The reality is that it’s usually very hard for staff members to find time, so most don’t reach 3 hours a week.
I hope that answers your question

Ah, okay, maybe next round then.
May I be so bold as to point out that next time when you say “last day to apply is Sunday”, people might take that to mean that they have until the end of Sunday to apply? (Really, no harm done. I was still a bit on the fence on this one. I’ll take it as a deus ex machina to help with the decision.
