I wanted to take a minute and share what’s been going on along the East Coast for the past few days and the wonderful contributions by editors from all over the Waze community in response to hurricane Matthew.
-
The Waze USA VEOC Slack team was activated and when WazeCon 5 level was reached a “All hands on deck” request was sent out looking for help from all editors in dealing with Hurricane Matthew. Currently we have 300+ members signed up
-
300+ Emergency Shelter locations have been entered into a Waze provided sheet for upload into the Waze app for users to reference as they flee the storm.
-
Interstate I-26 in South Carolina had over 90+ miles of closures entered to support “counter-flow”. The State made the East Bound lanes into West Bound lanes only to help with the flow of traffic leaving Charleston SC.
-
Interstate I-16 in Georgia had over 100+ miles of closures entered to support “counter-flow”. The State made the East Bound lanes into West Bound lanes only to help with the flow of traffic leaving Savannah GA.
More will be added as events unfold.

Was going to try and list some impact stats however not all states/counties have been able to submit damage information. Here is a link for weather.com that has a lot of different information about the storm that you might find interesting.
