Can the Essar brand be added to the Petrol Station brand list. I bet there is a form but I’ve not found it yet :?
Hi Chris
I’ve consulted the country managers as I was curious as to how this is done.
The response is that there are an insufficient number of sites to add Essar as a brand, and we really already have too many brands in the list. However, rather than setting the brand as Independent, leave the brand field empty and put Essar in the site’s name field - eg Essar Broadgate, as that’s what will be displayed in the app, rather than appearing as an Independent.
Hope that sounds reasonable.
This is of course outrageous :!:
…
Now that I’ve calmed down I’ll do as you suggest. Cheers for looking into it John. ![]()
Is there a threshold for the amount of stations a brand has before it’s considered to be included in the brands list?
There is no fixed/official threshold. When John asked me, I said 50 off the top of my head.
We already have quite a long list of brands, some of which I have never heard of. When petrol stations were introduced Waze imported a large database of petrol stations. Presumably, at that time, a threshold was used to decide which brands should go on the list.
An additional (minor) concern about this specific case is the similarity between Essar and Esso. Although it won’t affect people visiting an Essar station, users who search for petrol in the app and see “Essar” on the list are likely to think it’s a spelling mistake. ![]()
Having not spent that much time perusing the brands list, seeing this thread prompted me to do so now…
Aside from the bunch of nevereardofem’s further up the list (but which do all seem to have surprisingly large - relatively speaking - presences in the further flung extremities of these green and pleasant isles), I noticed a couple right at the bottom which really seemed out of place.
“UltramarWaitrose” and then just plain “Waitrose”…
I’ve seen a few other-brand stations with a small Waitrose shop attached, but I wasn’t aware of Waitrose having any branded stations of their own (nor, so it seems on a quick search, is the internet aware of this either).
And as for UltramarWaitrose… A bit of further digging suggests Ultramar did have a UK presence in years gone by, but nothing to suggest they deserve a place on the list now, and especially not when listed in a way which leads to confusion with the plain “Waitrose” immediately below.
Though bearing in mind Iain’s last point about confusing Essar and Esso, I’m not suggesting that we cull these two brands in order to free up space for Essar on the list, just that they could do with being culled to keep the list tidy.
