Currently we only have the option to list police activity as Visible or Hidden. I think it would be helpful to have two additional options for reporting visible police as Marked Vehicle or Unmarked Vehicle.
I use the comments section for such details. Though I think your suggestion does have merit, you would end up having to do:
Marked and Visible
Unmarked and Visible
Marked and Hidden
Unmarked and Hidden
Of course, I have speech-to-text and a mount, so it’s easy for me to press a button and say, “Trooper, hidden in trees, unmarked beige crown victoria…”
Adding voice annotation as can be done currently with hazards and traffic report would be helpful.
I personally think moving and stationary should be the options. Moving because by the time you get there, the police will be gone. And that’s nice to know.
Why report moving?
Like you said, they will be gone from that point by the time anyone else gets there. And that wazer will either see them earlier (before the report if the officer is heading there direction), or not at all ir the officer is going the same direction, or turns off.
Even the apps that are dedicated just for patrol watching don’t offer moving reports. The closest I’ve see is guestimation on patrol patterns based on static reports.
We’ve gone over the stationary vs. moving police reports several times in the forums and it is highly unlikely it will ever be added. Due to where the police might be in 5-10 minutes, there really is no point in marking them. The point of marking them is so that you can ensure you are driving safely within the speed limit at the right time. If they aren’t there, hit “Not there” on the screen and keep driving. Better to be safe than sorry. I don’t want to warned that a police car was driving where I am now 10 minutes ago. That’s just useless info.
I add notes using the voice command feature.
I don’t always report rolling troopers but have periodically. I like to do it in case the trooper is searching for a spot to set up… an alert of sorts to just keep an eye out.
I’ll note: “Trooper, rolling northbound at mile marker XYZ.” And if I’m following him and he exits the highway, I’ll add another note, “Rolling trooper departed highway at exit ABC.”
If they already have someone pulled over, I’ll note: “Trooper on shoulder with customer.”
Details like that are helpful… or at least I think so. I hope others do, too.
As a HEAVY driver and experienced CB user… hearing the whereabouts while quite a bit different with the WAZE application, still gives me reason to be “on alert” in that general vicinity and for miles afterwards.
Yep, me too! A long time CB user and I still am. Moving troopers is nice to know. Means they may be patrolling the highway. If you like it or not, folks around here do report moving police on Waze and without an option they have to place it in the comments.
Let me see…driving while typing in comments…hmmmm
How about “trouper pulled me over for texting while driving”?
Speech to text baby! Hands-free, tap a button, speak… done.
I’d like to see…
MY LANE. OTHER LANE. BOTH LANES.
…as options.
I drive a TON… and often I see road construction on BOTH sides in the same area. I see a trooper in a state with bi-direction radar watching BOTH sides of the road. Heavy weather… normally lands on both side of the road. ![]()
