Our Australian Wazers will know that mobile speed cameras are very popular over here.
The current Waze process to report a Camera seems geared around FIXED cameras and takes several days to complete.
As our Australian, Mobile Speed Cameras may only be in a specific location for several hours, can I suggest a Mobile Camera Hazard.
It would appear on the map immediately and would be able to warn other Wazers immediately.
It would automatically disappear after 24 hours say.
I often see mobile camera cars on the side of my route (camera is built into the front bumper) and I would like to warn others.
One of the problems that Waze has is that things that work in the US don’t exist or work outside the US and stuff that is in the world can’t be used across the world or the is US.
“Hidden” - As speed cameras in AU are plain cars. (Not marked Police cars. They are run by private companies, not Police)
The “Alerts Time” help page on the Support site explains that this kind of alert for the rest of the World, will remain for 2.5hrs. Every other Wazer that comments on it will add another 30 minutes that the alert will remain. This should work pretty well for our speed cameras.
Speed cameras are still operated by the police in Queensland. They only recently went to unmarked vehicles with a maximum percentage of hours permitted for unmarked.
It will be a sad day when we let private companies operate our speed cameras.
Any progress on this? I currently report mobile cameras as police, but would be really good to have an option specifically for the mobile cameras (to differentiate).
What generally happens in Waze is the ‘visible police’ report is used for police patrolling (moving or stopped) in clear sight to motorists, booze buses, cops attending an accident etc. The ‘hidden police’ is used for reporting police hiding in discreet locations or for mobile speed cameras.
If you’re after something more comprehensive in regards to camera reporting only, Trapster might be a better app for you to use.
