First time adding road - can someone check it?

Hi,

I’ve just added a road for the first time and would be grateful if someone can make sure I haven’t done anything stupid! The road is Leverton St, Kellyville NSW.

Added it using the pave function of the app, then edited name and turns in the editor.

Thanks.

Hi and welcome to the Waze editing community.

For future reference, when asking someone to look at something, it helps to post a link - the chain in the bottom-right corner of the editor will give you a hyperlink to the map section you’re looking at, and if you’ve selected anything it will show that road selected. You can post a raw link like https://www.waze.com/editor/?env=row&lon=150.95194&lat=-33.71603&layers=1989&zoom=6&segments=294396435, or use something like

Leverton Rd, Kellyville

Now: as far as your addition is concerned:

 • You’ve got the right suburb, road type elevation (Ground) and lock level (Automatic) - all good.
 • The road you’ve connected it to is a red (unnamed) road, so at the moment there’s no way to navigate to the road you’ve added. Is that road a real road, or should Leverton Rd be connected to the intersection of Butler Ave and Bruhn Cct?
 • For the street name, you should use Leverton Rd, not just Leverton.
 • Turn restrictions coming out of the road look correct, but at the moment it’s set up so that going south-east from the unnamed road you can’t turn right into it, you’d actually have to do a U-turn and then turn back.
 • The road looks slightly wiggly, but doesn’t need to be, even if it is slightly wiggly in real life. See Best map editing practice - overall goals and Adjusting road geometry. The road only needs to be in the right place and about the right shape; adding lots of geometry nodes to make a curve really smooth makes Waze slower without making the display for the driver any better. Compare the bends on these two segments of Gorman Ave, the sharp bend on the western segment works just as well as the smoother curve on the eastern one, but is quicker to load.

So, to finish the job, you need to:

 • Change the street name to Leverton Rd

 • I’d suggest straightening out the wiggle by removing all the geometry points.

 • Assuming that the unnamed road that connects Butler Ave to your road is real:

 • Add a name to that road.

 • Fix the turn restriction from the currently-unnamed road into Butler Ave.

 • If that unnamed road isn’t real, then:

 • Delete the red road.

 • Join Leverton Rd to the correct point on (I assume) Butler Ave

 • Check the turn restrictions are correct, in all directions

I hope that helps. I’m happy to look again when you’ve made those changes.
