Functionality differences between platforms, and removed functionalty

I have an iPhone as a work phone and Android as a personal phone.

The iPhone warns that you are appraching a change in speed limit, the Android doesn’t.

On both devices, there was an option for reporting a hazard and the subtype as Roadkill. This is no longer present and annoying as I like most non-metropliation drivers, are driving on country regional roads, that are two way with no shoulder, which can be littered with roadkill overnight and some are large roos or ferral pigs. There is also no way of warning other drivers, with the exception of police, of hazards on the other side of the road.

Hi RenoirZebe,

Thanks for your post. I’m sure others are also thinking the same questions.

I believe you’re talking about the alert for a major reduced speed limit. Waze is rolling out a new feature from Jan 2024 that alerts drivers when there is a major reduction in the speed limit. The speed needs to drop by 35km/hr before the alert appears. I see this feature has been released to all platforms, but it is still being gradually rolled out (not 100% of drivers have the feature yet). Hopefully, it will get to your device soon!

You should also be aware:

So Waze will stop showing you the alert after you’ve driven the route a few times.

Regarding roadkill, I agree! Waze reworked the menu last year to remove less common hazards or combine them where possible, with the aim of reducing the cognitive load on drivers trying to keep the car on the road. I recommend reporting Hazard > Object, which has the same effect.

I hope this helps. Stay safe on the road

There is a big difference between an object on the road, roadkill on the road and live animals that can run into traffic nearby. I do understand there can be too many options, but perhaps leave them for those that use voice to post. Or let us turn some off and some on and give us only a limited # to be in effect at a time. Closures are really involved and difficult to do while driving. That is one that could be removed. I never chat with anyone, I could easily delete that one and put something in its place.
